Platform Engineer - Contract, Braamfontein

Our Client a Global tech firm is seeking a Platform Engineer to join their team in Johannesburg on a contract basis. They offer stability, excellent rates, growth and a great working environment.

This role is for an experienced and enthusiastic engineer with a passion for containerization, cloud computing, and microservices architecture. You will be responsible for maintaining our Kubernetes cluster at the highest performance levels while keeping the environment reliable and stable. In this role you will: - Maintain our kubernetes cluster in production (creating new clusters if necessary).

Requirements

1. Design, build, configure and maintain team core on-prem and cloud infrastructure
2. Deploy, operate and upgrade Kubernetes clusters for the team and its customers
3. Be responsible for observability of the platform infrastructure
4. Engage with our internal customers, help to onboard them onto our container platform and resolve their issues
5. Co-operate with Bison Developer Experience team to help building company Internal Development Platform
6. Automate all things that are possible and reasonable to automate with Terraform
7. Programming skills in Python, Java, .NET, Golang or relevant

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's/Master's degree in computer science, information technology, or engineering
2. 4+ years of working experience with Kubernetes and troubleshooting techniques
3. Knowledge of containerized application deployment methods (k8s manifests, kustomize, helm)
4. Hands-on knowledge of at least one cloud platform (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc)
5. Strong hands-on knowledge of Linux platform and shell scripting
6. Knowledge of IaC and related infrastructure deployment tools (Ansible, Terraform, Crossplane)
7. Knowledge of microservice architecture, experience with application containerization and deployment to container platforms
8. Understanding of modern operational and application delivery tools and methodologies inside of production deployment workflows, CI/CD and GitOps tools (Jenkins, Tekton, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, ArgoCD, Flux, Rancher Fleet).
9. Understanding and experience in applying software security analysis and testing methodologies (SAST, DAST) and cloud native security techniques and tools (CWP, CSPM, CASB)
