Role Purpose

The Software Development Manager is responsible for overseeing the software development process and ensuring that it is completed efficiently, effectively, and to the required quality standards. They manage the software development team, plan projects, allocate resources, and monitor team performance to ensure the successful delivery of software products.

Role Description 

Team Management:
• Manage and mentor the software development team, including recruiting, training, and development of team members.
• Set performance goals for the team and provide regular feedback to ensure they meet or exceed expectations.
• Foster a positive and collaborative team environment to increase productivity and ensure team satisfaction.

Project Management:
• Plan and prioritize software development projects, determine resources needed and allocate accordingly.
• Monitor project progress, identify and mitigate risks, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
• Ensure project goals align with the company's strategic objectives.

Technical Guidance:
• Stay up to date with new software development technologies and best practices, and ensure they are implemented in the development process.
• Provide technical guidance to the team, review code and architecture to ensure that it aligns with industry best practices.
• Collaborate with other managers to align development priorities with business objectives.

Communication:
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders, other teams, and management to ensure the project is progressing as planned.
• Keep team members informed of project status, milestones, and issues.
• Maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience


• Degree/Diploma in IT, Software Development, Information Systems, Computer Science or related field - (essential).
• +7 years' experience as a Team Manager or similar role, with experience leading and managing the project teams' delivery of system/software development solutions in a structured environment - (essential).
• Proven experience as a software development manager or equivalent leadership role.
• Expert level understanding of software development., including knowledge of software architecture, coding practices, and development methodologies.
• Solid project management skills, including experience with Agile development methodologies.
• Demonstrable experience in an agile environment, particularly delivering strategic roadmaps and owning specific agile events such as backlog refinement and sprint reviews – (essential).
• Experience applying agile analysis techniques for creating user stories and acceptance criteria – (essential).
• Experience leading and coaching a multi-disciplinary team whilst taking ownership for specific project outcomes – (essential).
• Solid experience in IT project management and design and development of software solutions for digital commerce - (essential).
• Solid understanding and experience of IT business analysis processes, collaboration, stakeholder, and supplier engagements to integrate business needs with IT solutions and whilst understanding holistic impact on the business its customers - (essential).
• Experience in a retail, commercial, or IT environment – (highly desired).
• Strong proficiency in Office 365 skills with a strong focus on project management, business analysis and presentation tools - (essential).
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
