JOB PURPOSE

The Snr Instrumentation Technician will report to the Factory Manager and will be accountable for the sites control systems, calibrations, electrical, instrumentation and programming support. The role will lead and /or participate in the execution of new capital and continuous improvement projects. All PLC development and programming initiatives will be channelled and driven by this role.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job related activities include, but are not limited to:

Maintenance and repairs to all equipment

• Electrical, Instrumentation and electronic repair and maintenance of all machinery within the factory, and all associated electrical supply and control panels.
• Strong programming and fault-finding knowledge of DELTA, OMRON, SIEMENS, Variable Speed Drives and PLC's will be advantageous.
• Fault-finding and analysis of machine condition and electronic component failures.
• Load cell fault finding, diagnostics and calibration.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration on weighing systems, level control systems, level transmitters, and control system as per procedures and schedules.

Industrial Safety

• Keeping abreast of technical developments in all fields.
• Maintaining machine regulations.
• Abide by all safety regulations.
• Being available for Call Outs and overtime work
• Being available to work weekends and public holidays when required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

• This position is based in an industrial cement/tile adhesive factory with automated machinery.
• Dust, noise, and water based paint raw material will be present.
• For this position, must be medically fit and mobile.

REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate is expected to have the following qualifications, skills and behavoural competencies:

Qualification required:

• Trade Certified in the relevant Electrical/Instrumentation fields.
• N6 or T4 Qualification or equivalent in Electrical Engineering
• Delta, Omron, and Siemens PLC courses will be an advantage

Experience, knowledge and skills required for the position:

• Essential experience required in the following 
  • Min 10 years’ experience gained in PLC and SCADA software development, programming, and support, ideally in a cement or dry bulk powder blending and packing automated environment.
  • Experience in industrial Cement or Dry bulk powder blending and packing environment is a must
  • The successful candidate should have a strong experience on
    • PLC's ( Delta, OMRON and Siemens)
    • SCADA systems
    • loadcell systems 
• Strong knowledge required on the following
  • Hydraulics and Pneumatics
  •  Variable speed drives 
  • Automation systems.
  • Weighing systems
  • Level Control systems
  • Control systems
  • Effective functionality of the plant
  •  programming based a control philosophy using first principles.
• Essential technical skills required should include:
  • PLC Programming
  • PLC Software development
  • Electrical and electronic maintenance and repairs
  • Faultfinding
  • Analysis of machinc and electronic component failure
  • Diagnostics and calibration
  • Safety standards
  • Occupational safety regulations
  • Contineous improvement and quality standards
• Must have own car and be willing to be on standby duty and work overtime/ weekends and public holidays
• Must be physically fit and be in excellent health
• Behavioural skills essential for this role should include:
