Accountant, Bloemfontein

We are looking for an Accountant to join our Insurance Division. As a successful Accountant, you will be responsible for the full accounting function of various insurance-related entities within the group. You will play a key role in the preparation of management accounts and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with industry-specific regulations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Preparation of annual financial statements for insurance entities.
• Preparation and analysis of monthly Management Accounts for the insurance division.
• Reporting on variances and implementing cost-saving initiatives within the division.
• Submission of provisional tax, income tax, and handling of disputes specific to the insurance sector.
• Calculation of provisional taxes, ensuring accuracy in insurance-related financial matters.
• Review of monthly processing, reconciliations, and VAT submissions.
• Ensuring compliance with tax laws, insurance regulations, and industry standards.
• Preparation of annual budgets for the insurance division.
• Cashflow management and reviewing daily payments specific to insurance operations.
• Provide assistance and training to team members within the division.
• Perform any ad hoc tasks as assigned by upper management from time to time.

Position Requirements:

• B. Com Accounting degree or similar.
• Qualified accountant (SAIPA/SAICA articles beneficial).
• 2 years'+ post article experience, ideally within the insurance sector.
• Comprehensive knowledge of and experience in financial reporting, particularly in insurance.
• Sound understanding of tax, management accounts, and insurance-specific regulations.
• Proven leadership skills and experience in managing teams.
• Strong analytical skills, with high attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to deliver quality outputs under high pressure and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Pastel, Draftworx, Microsoft Office, and SARS e-filing.
