CNC Programmer, Boksburg

What We Are Looking For The CNC Programmer is responsible for setting CNC machines and creating CNC programs; this is a hands‑on position. The role ensures that the product being machined meets drawing specifications, prepares programs and tooling prior to production runs, troubleshoots machining defects, and assists production in maintaining compliance with drawings. The programmer conducts root‑cause analysis of machining defects related to programming and tooling, reduces machine cycle time and cost per component through tooling improvements, implements pre‑setting improvement ideas in the tool store, and performs machining of reworks and tooling as required. The role also involves creating programs and tool setup sheets.

The CNC Programmer Is Responsible For The Following Functions

Change and set up tooling on the CNC and other machines.

Generate CNC programs using CAM software such as MasterCAM and Fusion 360.

Work with Fanuc and Siemens CNC controllers.

Mach non‑production (product development) items on an ad‑hoc basis.

Assist in any jobbing required by the Optimisation and Pre‑setting department.

Observe machine operation to verify accuracy of machine settings and detect malfunctions or out‑of‑tolerance conditions.

Use precision measuring instruments such as vernier, micrometre, dial gauges and dial calipers.

Adjust machine control, including part process/machine sequence to ensure parts conform to drawings.

Verify the first‑piece inspection using appropriate measuring instruments and procedures.

Monitor work, test and take agreed critical measurements to identify program correctness and repeatability.

Assist in maintaining the general cleanliness and upkeep of the pre‑setting machine shop.

Qualifications You Should Have

National Senior Certificate or NQF 4 equivalent qualification.

Trade Test (machining relevant trades).

At least 3 years of relevant experience.

Ability to program CNC and use CAM (Computer Aided Machining) software.

Willingness to be flexible, versatile and tolerant in a changing work environment while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency.

Professional communication skills with production operators, supervisors, plant manager, maintenance personnel, suppliers and colleagues.

Capability of solving minor and complex problems, communicating the process behind solutions using data, logic, judgement and problem‑solving tools.

Attention to detail when preparing, reviewing and issuing documentation and tooling for job preparation.

Ownership of work carried out and responsibility for successfully completing setup tasks or identifying when setups are not successfully completed.

Formal programming qualification preferred.

Ability to set a CNC machine and load required programs.
