Environmental, Health&Safety (EHS) Specialist, Brits

Introduction

We are seeking a skilled Environmental, Health&Safety (EHS) Specialist to develop, implementand promote a safe and healthy working environment at our Pretoria bakery facility. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with all regulatory, companyand global standards while driving continuous improvement in safety, environmental performanceand sustainability initiatives. This role is critical in safeguarding employees, contractors, visitorsand company assets.Duties&Responsibilities

Lead and manage the on-site EHS function, ensuring full compliance with legal and company requirements Implement global safety and sustainability initiatives across the plant Develop, reviewand improve EHS policies and procedures Monitor and report on environmental and safety performance to senior managementManage employer liability claims in collaboration with insurers Prepare for internal and external audits, including corrective action implementation Conduct regular internal audits to ensure ongoing compliance Provide EHS guidance to manufacturing and engineering teams Lead incident investigations and implement preventative measuresIdentify and implement best practices to improve safety and operational efficiency Assess training needs and partner with HR on EHS training programs Drive continuous improvement of EHS systems aligned with business goals Develop and mentor EHS team members Implement cost-saving and resource optimisation initiativesCollaborate with medical practitioners on health surveillance programs Ensure compliance with ISO standards (ISO 14001&ISO 55001) Oversee alcohol breathalyser compliance at site entry points Identify and mitigate workplace risks effectively Support the Plant Manager with additional responsibilities as required Desired Experience&Qualification

Minimum 5 years’ experience in EHS within the food production or manufacturing industry Strong understanding of manufacturing processes Experience with audits, complianceand incident investigations Proven track record in risk identification and mitigation Experience working with SAP and EHS systems is advantageousNQF Level 6 qualification in a technical field with formal EHS training, or National Diploma in Health&Safety Management (or equivalent) Strong knowledge of:

EHS legislation (South Africa) GMP, HACCP, and Food Safety standards SOPs, pest controland bakery operations

Understanding of occupational health, environmental management and compliance requirements Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 14001&ISO 55001 preferred)
