Position Summary A leading private healthcare institution in the Caribbean is seeking an experienced and detail oriented Operation Theatre Nurse to join its dynamic surgical services team. The OT Nurse will play a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care across a range of surgical specialties. This position involves close collaboration with surgeons, anaesthetists, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver superior patient outcomes before, during, and after surgery. Key Responsibilities Pre-Operative Duties
Prepare the operating theatre with necessary sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment.
Verify patient identity, consent forms, and surgical site markings prior to the procedure.
Assist in patient positioning and preoperative preparation, maintaining comfort and dignity.
Conduct pre-surgery safety and equipment checks in collaboration with the surgical team.
Intra-Operative Duties
Assist surgeons by anticipating needs, passing instruments, and maintaining aseptic technique.
Monitor the patient’s condition throughout surgery, promptly reporting any concerns.
Manage surgical instruments, sponges, and equipment to ensure accountability and efficiency.
Uphold rigorous infection control and sterilisation standards at all times.
Post-Operative Duties
Provide immediate postoperative care and ensure safe transfer to the recovery area.
Monitor and record vital signs, report complications, and provide post-surgical education.
Clean, restock, and prepare the theatre for subsequent cases.
Support the multidisciplinary team in ensuring seamless continuity of patient care.
Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from a recognized institution.
Valid Nursing Registration/License from the relevant Nursing Council.
Minimum 3–4 years of OT or perioperative nursing experience in a hospital setting.
Comprehensive knowledge of surgical instruments, procedures, and sterilisation techniques.
Strong teamwork, communication, and coordination skills.
Excellent attention to detail with adherence to safety and aseptic standards.
Ability to perform calmly and efficiently under pressure in fast‑paced surgical environments.
Commitment to patient safety, continuous improvement, and clinical excellence.
Preferred Attributes
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Experience across multi‑specialty surgeries (general, orthopaedics, gynaecology, ENT, etc.).
Familiarity with computerised medical records and modern OT technologies.
