Job Summary The Engineer– Electrical, Data Centers will support AECOM’s local and global engineering teams in South Africa. The role focuses on detailed electrical engineering of LV and MV systems for data centre projects. The position offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement, requiring at least 3 days per week in office.
Key Responsibilities
Perform specific portions of broader engineering assignments.
Gather and analyze engineering data using established procedures.
Conduct calculations and routine tests for electrical systems.
Propose solutions for new problems.
Identify discrepancies in results.
Guide entry‑level engineers.
Work within budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
Utilize BIM software; experience with Revit is advantageous.
Develop and verify load lists, single‑line diagrams, network diagrams, electrical schematic diagrams, diversification and load factors, electrical network design, fault‑level calculations, protection scheme modelling and settings.
Specify power metering, interface to energy/building management systems, cable routing, cable sizing, lighting calculations, earthing risk assessments and earthing layouts.
Specify electrical equipment including switchgear, distribution boards, motor control centres, transformers, generators, UPS systems, cables, lighting, etc., and construction standards.
Participate in client meetings to discuss project requirements and defend work.
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of experience post‑qualification.
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Science or Engineering from an accredited university; registered as a Candidate Engineer with ECSA.
Preferred data‑centre experience.
