We are looking for an experienced
Blaster
to join our Projects team in
Cape Town . You will be responsible for preparing metal surfaces for coating applications on industrial structures such as fuel tanks, pipelines, and steel structures. Your work will ensure surfaces meet project specifications, quality standards, and site‑specific health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Core Purpose Prepare metal surfaces for coating applications on industrial structures such as fuel tanks, pipelines, and steel structures, ensuring compliance with project specifications, ISO standards, and site‑specific HSE requirements. Maintain high‑quality, safe, and efficient surface preparation work in high‑risk petrochemical and industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Perform abrasive blasting on steel surfaces for painting/coating preparation.
Ensure surfaces meet required cleanliness and surface profile standards (e.g., SA 2.5 or client‑specific).
Operate and maintain blasting equipment (hoses, nozzles, compressors).
Mix and load abrasive materials as required.
Mask and protect surfaces not intended for blasting.
Comply with all HSE regulations on‑site.
Wear and maintain proper PPE, including respiratory protection.
Report equipment faults, unsafe practices, or incidents immediately.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Conduct daily inspections on blasting tools and equipment.
Perform basic troubleshooting and report defects.
Assist in setting up and dismantling blasting areas.
Keep accurate logs of work completed and materials used.
Coordinate with painters, supervisors, and team members to meet deadlines.
Assist in scheduling surface preparation with coating activities.
Communicate effectively with site management and other departments.
Qualifications Formal Qualifications
Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
Formal sandblasting certification or recognized industry training
On‑the‑Job Training / Certifications
Permit-to-Work Systems
Working at Heights certificate
Confined Space Entry certificate
Licenses
Valid driver’s license
Experience Functional Experience
2–5 years as a Blaster in petrochemical, industrial, or heavy engineering environments
Cross‑Functional Experience
Coordinate activities with scaffolding, mechanical, civil, quality, and safety teams
Industry Experience
Petrochemical, fuel terminal, or high‑risk industrial environments (tank repair, refurbishment, fabrication, piping installation)
Knowledge
Abrasive blasting techniques and surface preparation standards
Equipment handling, masking, and surface cleanliness requirements
ISO‑compliant QCPs and technical specifications
Site safety, HSE procedures, and compliance standards
Project coordination with painters, supervisors, and QA/QC teams
Emergency response procedures in petrochemical environments
