Job Description The organisation operates a Care Home that provides accommodation and support services to cancer patients receiving treatment at both public and private oncology facilities. The Care Home focuses on delivering compassionate care, ensuring patient wellbeing, and maintaining sustainable operations through effective management and fundraising initiatives.
The purpose of this role is to manage the Care Home and ensure the effective delivery of services to residents, while also supporting oncology treatment facilities. The position involves overall leadership and management of staff and volunteers, financial oversight, and fundraising to ensure the sustainability of the Care Home. The role also includes ensuring efficient daily operations and maintaining high standards of care and compliance.
Roles and Responsibilities
Professional liaison and communication with patients and treatment facilities
Management of referrals and bookings from treatment facilities
Management of the intake and orientation of patients
Provision of information and support to patients, including cancer-related guidance
Management of care home staff and daily operations in line with policies and procedures
Ensuring compliance with administrative and financial policies
Oversight of Health and Safety as the designated SHE Representative, including: Identifying and reporting workplace hazards and risks; Participating in incident investigations
Coordinating emergency procedures
Communicating with staff and the Health and Safety Committee
Managing income and expenditure in line with the approved budget; Fundraising and securing donations to ensure sustainability
Managing the medical aid claims process for private patients; Submitting monthly reports timeously
Recruitment, mentoring, and supervision of volunteers
Qualifications And Requirements
Social Auxiliary Worker qualification with proof of registration with SACSSP
Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing a care facility or similar institution
Basic accounting knowledge and experience
Competencies
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Bilingual in English and Afrikaans
Ability to engage effectively with stakeholders, medical facilities, and government departments
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other digital tools
Strong organisational, time management, and customer service skills
Professional attitude and presentation
Ability to provide emotional support to cancer patients and their families
