Electrical Engineer– iX engineers (Pty) Ltd.
This role ensures all electrical engineering tasks and targets are achieved, in cooperation with other engineers and the Head of Department. These responsibilities are mainly associated with ECSA work stages and others as detailed below. Areas of Responsibility
Business Development and Support
Attend tender briefings, prepare tender documentation, write method statements, assist with pricing calculations, and contribute to tender processes as and when required. Comply with company procedures and processes in terms of project registration and risk analysis. Comply with quality procedures, ensuring an auditable trail of actions during the full life cycle of project delivery in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures.Comply with and embrace Health and Safety requirements in the workplace and on construction sites. Ensure that required services meet applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. Contribute to marketing and business development of the Electrical Department to onboard new clients/projects. Internal Project Management, Health and Safety, Administration and Quality Management Procedures
Comply with company procedures and processes in terms of project registration and risk analysis. Comply with quality procedures, ensuring an auditable trail of actions during the full life cycle of project delivery in accordance with company Quality Management Procedures. Comply with and embrace Health and Safety requirements in the workplace and on construction sites.Ensure that required services meet applicable statutory and regulatory requirements. Project Delivery and Management
Actively lead, participate, and contribute to the design and technical aspects of projects to ensure delivery on time, within budget and to specification. Conceptualise, design development, and produce detailed design work, delivering contract documentation, specifications, and drawings. Sign‑off on engineering designs, taking professional responsibility per ECSA guidelines.Successfully manage small to medium‑size projects. Design electrical and electronic building services for various types of projects including power, lighting, fire detection, access control, CCTV, nurse call, PA, emergency services, telecoms containment, fibre networks, solar PV/BESS systems. Detailed knowledge of renewable energy designs (solar PV, BESS) is an added advantage.Ensure that project start‑up processes are followed and scoping is clear and approved. Ensure changes comply with project change management processes. Provide technical support, supervision and advice to the discipline team and other project teams, participating in peer reviews. Prepare project documentation such as proposals, estimates, budgets, and schedules.Prepare and evaluate alternative concept designs, liaising with other disciplines internally and externally. Develop detailed design specifications, manage drawing preparation, and prepare tender documentation to produce high‑standard engineering deliverables. Facilitate and assist with tender and adjudication process leading to contractor appointment and site handover.Provide assistance and advice during procurement, construction, and commissioning activities. Plan, coordinate and manage design, procurement and construction of assigned projects. Conduct contract administration and testing, commissioning and inspections of installations. Develop initiatives to improve cost effectiveness and efficiency of project execution.Participate in relevant meetings, prepare progress reports, and follow required checking procedures. Present design solutions to clients for approval. Responsible for routine administration tasks as required from time to time. Training and Mentoring
Participate in continuous professional development training to maintain professional registration. Mentor, coach, train and provide technical leadership to registered candidate engineers/technologists. Leadership and Relations
Maintain good working relations with all stakeholders, both internal and external to the company. Pro‑actively liaise with clients to ensure the company meets requirements. Effectively manage project teams to control risks and achieve targets on time and within budget. Assist with the compilation and review of discipline‑specific technical standards, templates, and technologies.Education, Language&Qualification
B.Eng degree in Electrical Engineering at a recognized institution. Professional registration is preferred or be eligible for Professional registration (Pr. Eng) with ECSA within one year of appointment. Essential Knowledge, Skills&Experience
Ten or more years of relevant experience post‑degree qualification (position will be dependent on years of experience). Experience in AutoCAD/REVIT, and scheduling software such as MS Project (advantage). Proven ability to execute designs, work as part of a team, and manage small to medium projects.High level of general computer skills (MS Office, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams). Good financial acumen in project planning, control, and execution. Good verbal and written communication skills are essential. Ability to manage and interact with people effectively. Fluent in English.Team player and works well with others. Knowledge of South African working conditions (SANS 10142 and 10400‑XA). Must be able to work independently and execute all stages of a project with minimal to no supervision. High level of specialised computer skills (Autodesk suite, AutoCAD, Helioscope, solar PV design, ReticMaster, DIALux, Relux).Good problem‑solving skills and application of engineering judgement. Diligent and able to work under consistent pressure to meet deadlines. Client focused. Design accuracy and attention to detail are crucial. Ability to grow and maintain client relationships.
