Position Title Field Finance Coordinator
Duty Station Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
Open Position 1
General Position Summary The Mercy Corps Finance Department manages accounting, payments, payroll, budgeting, financial reporting, grant financial management, and donor compliance. The Field Finance Coordinator supports the Program Department by providing timely financial reports and assistance to the Country Director and Program team, ensuring resources are used efficiently and effectively.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Compliance Monitoring (35% of time)– monitor and enforce internal audit recommendations and host‑government compliance rules (tax, VAT, pension, provident fund, etc.).
Financial Accounting and Budgeting (30% of time)– maintain accurate general ledger entries, reconcile balance sheets, and prepare monthly financial diaries.
MIS Supervision (35% of time)– review, post, and reconcile financial data in Navigator, and provide analytical reports on balance sheet items.
Ensure all financial documents meet Mercy Corps internal controls and donor requirements; review checklists and sign‑offs.
Support audits (A‑133, statutory, donor) by providing filtered system information and material issue reporting.
Conduct periodic compliance reviews and present findings at finance team meetings.
Participate in the implementation of internal audit recommendations and track follow‑ups.
Travel Requires 20% travel to Mercy Corps and sub‑grantee sites for capacity‑building and compliance monitoring.
Team Management
Develop team capacity and career progress.
Provide tools, resources, and constructive feedback.
Promote accountability through regular one‑on‑ones and performance reviews.
Hire, orient, and lead team members as required.
Create a respectful, achievement‑focused work environment.
Influence&Representation
Interface with donor representatives to convey program information.
Share best practices with NGOs and government agencies.
Maintain professional relationships under challenging circumstances.
Uphold high ethical standards and respect for all partners.

Adhere to and enforce country leadership security policies.
Ensure team members operate in a secure environment.
Organizational Learning
Allocate 5% of time to learning activities that benefit both Mercy Corps and personal development.
Accountability to Beneficiaries
Support accountability efforts toward beneficiaries, engaging them as partners in design, monitoring, and evaluation.
Reports Directly To Field Finance Manager
Knowledge and Experience
Minimum 5 years progressive experience in non‑profit or INGO finance.
At least 2 consecutive years managing USAID, EU, UN, and SIDA grants.
Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s preferred).
Proficiency with computerized general ledger software.
Advanced MS Office skills, especially Excel.
Strong organizational and grant‑management skills.
Excellent English, both oral and written.

Ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing program needs.
