We are seeking a diligent and professional Banking Officer to join our team in South Africa. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting banking operations, managing financial transactions, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing excellent service to clients. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of banking policies, financial regulations (including FAIS), and a strong ability to work in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities (Job Description) 1. Branch Operations&Administration:
Provide a routine risk prevention and administration function for the branch to ensure operational effectiveness.
Process customer transactions including deposits, withdrawals, and fund transfers accurately and efficiently.
Oversee daily banking procedures, ensuring all transactions comply with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
2. Client Relationship Management:
Assist customers with opening, closing, and managing various types of accounts.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, identifying their needs and introducing appropriate banking products and services.
Resolve customer complaints and inquiries by providing relevant information and solutions.
3. Compliance&Risk Management:
Ensure strict adherence to banking laws, regulations (including FAIS), and the bank's own policies.
Conduct Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) checks on new clients and periodic reviews on existing clients.
Identify, analyze, and help mitigate financial, operational, and credit risks.
Analyze financial data, prepare forecasts, and assist in investment decisions.
Prepare monthly management accounts, financial reports, and analyze revenue and cost patterns.
Perform comprehensive bank reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
5. Business Development:
Participate in business development initiatives to attract new clients and retain existing ones.
Identify opportunities to cross-sell banking products such as loans, credit cards, and investment options.
Qualifications and Skills Education:
Minimum: National Certificate in Banking (NQF5 FAIS Aligned Qualification) or Matric with relevant banking certification.
Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related field.
Experience:
Entry‑Level:
0‑2 years (internships or graduate programs).
Mid‑Level:
3‑4 years of exposure and solid understanding of branch operations.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in MS Office applications, especially
Excel
for financial modeling and data analysis.
Strong understanding of banking operations, KYC/AML procedures, and financial regulations (e.g., FAIS).
Knowledge of risk management, credit analysis, and financial planning.
Soft Skills:
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for client and stakeholder interactions.
Analytical thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Strong client relationship management skills.
Certifications (Preferred):
CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) for investment roles.
FRM (Financial Risk Manager) for risk management positions.
CA(SA) designation for accounting and finance leadership roles.
FAIS accreditation (mandatory for certain advisory roles).
Additional Requirements Work Authorization:
Must have the right to work in South Africa. Valid work permit required for foreign nationals.
Language:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional South African languages (e.g., Afrikaans, isiZulu, isiXhosa) can be an advantage for client‑facing roles.
Medical Tests:
A pre‑employment medical examination is a standard procedure after a job offer is made, though it is not typically part of the initial application.
Driving License:
May be required for roles involving client visits or regional responsibilities.
