Africa Public Policy Manager, Access & Connectivity, Johannesburg

Client based in JHB seeks the services of Africa Public Policy Manager, Access & Connectivity with a good understanding of the challenges to broadband connectivity in Africa - availability, affordability, relevance, and readiness. They must also have a track record of shaping connectivity policy and regulation with governments, the private sector, and civil society.

To improve Africa's ICT infrastructure, helping to increase and improve access to broadband internet. We're seeking to build on the investments we've made on the continent that are helping millions connect. Applications from candidates with a track record of working on the physical roll-out of infrastructure projects are highly encouraged. Excellent written and oral communications skills are essential, as are analytical skills, experience working and/traveling in Africa, and high levels of diplomacy.

Minimum Qualifications

1. 6+ years of access and connectivity public policy experience
2. Understanding of political systems in sub-Saharan Africa
3. Demonstrated policy experience of at least one of the 48 countries in SSA
4. Experience in working or traveling in sub-Saharan Africa
5. Excellent judgment, superior written/verbal communication, as well as the ability to work with minimal supervision in a dynamic environment
6. Willingness to travel frequently (at least 60%) throughout sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on Anglophone countries
7. Fluency in technology and a passion for the company's mission to make the world more open and connected
8. Experience working with at least one regional and/or international organization focused on Africa's ICT e.g. World Bank, Africa Union, Smart Africa

PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Fluency in an African language e.g. Kiswahili, Hausa, Pidgin, Xhosa, Yoruba, Kenyang, Lingala, Shona, Wolof, Twi, Ga.
