Internal Auditor, Johannesburg

The Internal Auditor forms part of the Auditing team at a business unit level, reporting to a senior manager in the business, taking their direction from the Principal Internal Auditor and operating in medium complexity environments.

The primary responsibility of the Internal Auditor is the co-ordination of specific processes to support the implementation and execution of the Company's audit plan, monitoring compliance, preparing and presenting audit findings and recommendations and providing assurance of compliance to statutory requirements and policies and procedures.

Auditing system

These individuals assist management by ensuring that a system is in place that will contribute to identifying and analyzing all risks to the Company's business. They coordinate specific processes to support the implementation and execution of the audit plan.

Auditing plan

The Internal Auditor works closely with the more senior internal auditing team to determine and plan the scope and objective of an internal audit. They develop the engagement plan related to the audit plan specifying the client environment, defining the scope and objective of the audit, specifying the resource requirements and the engagement work program. These individuals co-ordinate reporting with the external auditors and ensure awareness of the workings in the audit and the areas of concern.

Conducts audit

The Internal Auditor remains current with internal auditing best practice and legislation to ensure the analysis and review of a variety of areas in the business depending on the scope identified in the audit plan and will include, but not limited to:

• Analyzing the operations in a way which closely follows the rules and procedures supporting the company's goals and objectives to determine compliance to these procedures.

• Analyzing and evaluating the internal controls to determine its effectiveness in mitigating risks and threats and to ensure the reliability of financial reports and compliance to laws and statutory reports.

• Evaluating the means by which the organisation protects its assets and ensures that the safeguards are assessed.

Report findings

These individuals professionally communicate the findings of the audit to the required stakeholders. They prepare a final audit report for submission and distribution to the various stakeholders and the adequacy and effectiveness of stakeholder action plans are assessed and implementation is monitored and reported in writing.

Audit review

The Internal Auditor uses their specialist knowledge of audit procedures to assist with the review of the outcome of the audit process in terms of its objectives, quality, completeness and feedback. They communicate and present this information to the auditing committee and management, reporting on the policies adopted for auditing, and the programs and activities of the Auditing team.

Key Roles and Responsibilities 
In this position you will be required to:
1. Assist management by ensuring that a system is in place that will contribute to identifying and analyzing all risks to the Company's business.

2. Determine and plan the scope and objective of an internal audit by developing the engagement plan related to the audit plan and assist with the co-ordination of coverage with the external auditors.

3. Assist with analyzing the operations to determine compliance to these procedures, evaluating the internal controls to determine its effectiveness in mitigating risks and threats and evaluating the means by which the organisation protects its assets.

4. Prepare a final audit report for submission and distribution to the various stakeholders.

5. Assist with the review of the outcome of the audit process in terms of its objectives, quality, completeness and feedback.


Requirements: Education, Training and Experience
Honours as a minimum requirement

Financial Accounting / CIMA Qualification
Experience
5 – 8 years' work experience  - At least 5 years' experience in a relevant field
