Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Controller / Machinist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines, including turning, slotting, drilling, and boring mill equipment, to produce high-quality precision components.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, program, and operate CNC machines (turning, slotting, drilling, and boring mills)

• Interpret and work from engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications

• Monitor machine operations to ensure quality and efficiency

• Perform tool changes, offsets, and minor machine adjustments

• Conduct routine inspections using measuring instruments (verniers, micrometers, gauges)

• Ensure all components meet required tolerances and quality standards

• Perform basic machine maintenance and troubleshooting

• Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with health & safety standards

• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimise processes

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric

• Trade Test Certificate (Turner Machinist or equivalent) – advantageous

• Minimum 3–5 years' experience operating CNC machines

• Proven experience in:

  • CNC Turning

  • Slotting

  • Drilling

  • Boring Mill operations

• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings

• Strong understanding of machining processes and tolerances

• High attention to detail and accuracy

• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

• Ability to work independently and within a team

• Good time management and ability to meet production deadlines

• Knowledge of CNC programming (Fanuc/Siemens controls advantageous)

• Strong understanding of health and safety practices

Advantageous

• Experience with large components or heavy engineering environments

• Knowledge of CAD/CAM software

• Experience in mining, engineering, or manufacturing sectors

Working Conditions

• Workshop / manufacturing environment

• May be required to work shifts and overtime as needed
