Multinational Engineering firm seeks a senior Structural Engineer. Design steel lattice towers for powerlines, topographical layouts, foundation designs. Role suited to a smart mid-career engineer with exceptional technical aptitude. Opportunity to be involved in some of the top engineering projects in South Africa.

Excellent Engineering Design Aptitude. PR Eng – A degreed engineer who can defend an engineering argument based on facts (Expats must be able to produce evidence of registration with local engineering professional registration body) Excellent structural engineering track record, with a wide variety of projects. Must include exposure to technically complex projects. Excellent Technical knowledge on steel structure design with preference for free-standing tower design. Excellent knowledge on foundation design. People smarts – must be able to lead a team and interact with senior executives

What the person must be able to do:

This role is in the South African structural engineering industry. All duties would take place in this context.

Design of Powerline Towers according to SANS, ASTM and IEC codes (Company willing to cross-train a suitably experience Pr Eng) Steel Lattice Tower DesignTower FoundationsTopographical layouts of Powerlines Excellent experience in using CAD tools as well as manual verification of calculations Exposure to mechanical engineering strongly advantageous Manage the engineering department and be the development team leader Engage in vigorous technical debate on design decisions. Must be able to hold the argument. People smarts and emotional intelligence Design to the level of a professional engineer and sign-off designs

Key Job Deliverables (First 6-12 Months):

Technical Design work on key projects Reorganise the engineering database to ensure easy access to intellectual property Management of Engineering department

Background work experience

10+ years experience as a design engineer in a large consulting or contracting company. Experience in being the technical liaison between client and company Structural Engineering Degree ECSA Professional Registration (Non-Negotiable must be a Pr Eng) Exceptional understanding of a professional engineer’s role and responsibilities Strong knowledge on design standards, codes and laws At least 3 years in developing new designs from concept to calculations to drawings, testing and construction. The ability to develop new designs from concept to calculations to drawing and final testing Proven ability in accurately interpret technical and structural drawings Proven ability in technical communication Expertise in CAD packages Must be capable of fault-finding and root cause analysis Project Management Experience strongly advantageous Fast learner People Savvy Energy and drive Willing to travel Nationally and internationally. (Occasional) Strong interpersonal skills

Salary:

R800K to R1 Mil per annum negotiable for a senior structural engineer.

Up to R1.3 Mil for specific Powerline Tower Design experience (Proven track record with example designs will be required).
