Business Architect, Johannesburg

Our client based in Isando is looking for a Business Architect with at least 6-8 years of experience in the field, coupled with NQF Level 7 qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field and TOGAF Certification.

Purpose of the Role The Business Architect is responsible for translating business strategy into actionable capabilities and operating models that drive enterprise transformation. They define and map business capabilities, value streams, and processes to ensure alignment with strategic objectives. The role involves analysing the current (baseline) state, designing the target state, and identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement. Business Architect is also responsible for engaging stakeholders to capture business drivers, requirements and constraints that shape solution design. They contribute to transformation roadmaps, ensuring initiatives are prioritised based on value, feasibility and risk. Within innovation squads, the Business Architect provides the voice of the business, ensuring that emerging technologies and innovations directly support measurable business outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience Required

Matric plus NQF Level 7 qualification in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related field

TOGAF Certification

NQF Level 8 qualification in Enterprise Architecture, Digital Transformation or related field

Professional certifications in solution design or architecture (e.g. ArchiMate, AWS/Azure Solution Architect)

IT Governance or Project Management certification (e.g. ITIL, PRINCE2)

Working knowledge of the Abacus EA tool

With 6-8 years of experience, have worked on large-scale projects in both public and private sector organisations

Experience in designing and delivering business capability maps, value streams and operating models to align initiatives with enterprise strategy

Gap analysis between baseline and target states to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation

Engaged stakeholders at executive and operational levels to capture business drivers and ensure solutions address real needs

Shaped transformation roadmaps, prioritising initiatives based on value, feasibility and risk

Supporting Agile delivery teams and innovation squads, ensuring business perspectives guide technology adoption

Facilitated workshops, modelling business processes and defining requirements for enterprise solutions

Balanced strategic vision with operational execution

Proven track record of ensuring that business architecture enables measurable outcomes and supports long-term enterprise agility

Experience in large-scale digital transformation where strategy must be translated into actionable capabilities

Aligned stakeholders by creating capability maps and value streams, ensuring initiatives target high-value opportunities

Through gap analysis and roadmap design, identified efficiencies, innovation areas and investment priorities, resulting in faster adoption of new technologies, reduced risk and measurable alignment between business strategy and execution

Define, map and maintain the organisation’s capability model to support transformation and innovation

Gap Analysis&Target State Design

Identify gaps between current and future operating models, recommending improvements and opportunities

Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure smooth deployment and integration of solutions

Develop and maintain business transformation roadmaps, ensuring initiatives are prioritised by value and feasibility

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, DevOps engineers and business stakeholders, to align technical solutions with business goals

Governance&Compliance

Ensure business architecture practices comply with enterprise principles, standards and governance structures

Business Enablement Guidance&Support

Provide expertise and direction to development, testing and operations teams

Resolve architectural or design issues during project delivery

Act as a subject matter expert on specific technologies and solution domains

Innovation&Emerging Technology

Support innovation squads and agile delivery teams by providing the voice of the business in technology and data-driven projects

Stakeholder Engagement

Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand needs and constraints

Translate technical designs into business-friendly language

Build trust by balancing business priorities with technical feasibility
