Civil&Structural Engineer, Johannesburg

We are looking for a skilled Civil&Structural Engineer to support the design and execution of infrastructure and structural systems for large-scale mineral processing plants. You will be involved across the full EPCM lifecycle, from concept and design through to construction support.

Qualifications

BEng/BSc/BTech in Civil or Structural Engineering or related field

Registered as a Professional Engineer/technician/technologist with ECSA is preferred, or registration should be in process.

Experience

5–10 years’ experience in EPC/EPCM or heavy industrial/mining projects

Experience in structural design for processing plants and engineering of structural steelwork (advantageous)

The Role

Be an initiator for communication throughout the project team, facilitate project team collaboration and support

Be responsible to collate required input information to be able to carry out required duties

Participate in and contribute to project teams with regards to discipline requirements

Be responsible to prepare civil / structural design engineering calculations

Review and approve engineering drawings at appropriate stages

Preparation, management and update of the engineering deliverables register. Splitting and planning of the engineering budget into deliverables.

Interface within various project structures to ensure that the project is completed in time and budget

Participate in and contribute to project reviews

Review all engineering works with assigned mentor and agree on a development plan

Assist with the preparation of project estimates and assist in tender preparation

Prepare project reports and provide input into project budgets, schedules or other specific requirements

Design and Analyse

Structural steelwork (plant structures, platforms, supports)

Concrete structures (foundations, slabs, bunds)

Develop and Review

General arrangement drawings

Structural calculations and design reports

Ensure alignment with

Process, mechanical, electrical and piping layouts

Perform

Load calculations (dead, live, wind, seismic where applicable)

Foundation and structural integrity assessments

Support

Construction activities and site queries

Commissioning readiness from a structural perspective

Ensure compliance with

Relevant design codes and standards (SANS, Eurocode, etc.)

Skills Required

Proficient in normal design software, specifically Prokon and Robot

Proficient in use of basic computer software

Knowledge of industry design codes and standards

Have or aim to have some construction and operational knowledge and experience

Strong structural design and analytical skills

Attention to detail and accuracy

Ability to coordinate across multidisciplinary teams

Problem-solving and practical engineering mindset

Good communication and reporting skills

Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines
