Job Description Shape the Future of Modular Water Treatment Solutions A leading privately owned engineering company within the water treatment sector is seeking a skilled Process Engineer to join its growing technical team. The business designs and delivers modular water and wastewater treatment plants for clients across healthcare, hospitality, education, manufacturing, commercial, and industrial sectors throughout South Africa and neighbouring African countries.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of the full process engineering lifecycle— from process design and hydraulic modelling through to commissioning and performance optimisation. You’ll play a critical role in developing fit‑for‑purpose treatment solutions that directly impact water quality, sustainability, and operational efficiency for clients across diverse industries.
Key Responsibilities
Design and optimise water and wastewater treatment processes for modular treatment systems
Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, equipment specifications, and control narratives
Perform hydraulic modelling and process calculationsSelect and specify treatment equipment and process technologies
Support commissioning activities including FAT/SAT testing, startup, and performance validation
Troubleshoot process, hydraulic, and operational issues during implementation and operation
Work closely with mechanical, project, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless project delivery
Assist with proposal development, technical submissions, and client solutions
Monitor plant performance and recommend optimisation improvements
Support operator training, handover documentation, and long‑term process performance
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical team development
Requirements Candidate Requirements
Degree in
Chemical or Process Engineering
Minimum
6 years’ experience within water or wastewater treatment environments
Strong
understanding of potable water and wastewater treatment processes
Experience with technologies including
UF/NF/RO membranes, filtration, ion exchange, biological treatment, and disinfection systems
Knowledge of
hydraulic modelling and process design software
Familiarity with
SANS 241 and wastewater discharge regulations
Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem‑solving capability
Experience working with
PFDs, P&IDs, and commissioning processes
Ability to
work both independently and within cross‑functional project teams
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
