Lead Mechanical Engineer

responsible for leading mechanical design activities across mining and minerals projects. To guide engineering teams, support clients, and ensure high-quality, cost-effective design solutions across various project stages. This role is located in

Johannesburg .

Job Responsibilities

Lead mechanical engineering and design for mining and processing plant projects.

Manage and support a team of engineers and designers.

Oversee the preparation and review of engineering deliverables (drawings, specifications, reports).

Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including process, civil, electrical, and project management.

Interface directly with clients to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.

Ensure designs meet safety standards, codes, and client specifications.

Support project planning, manhour estimates, and scheduling.

Review vendor documents and technical submissions.

Qualifications and Skills Requirements

Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

Minimum 12 years’ experience in mechanical design within mining, minerals processing, or heavy industry.

Proven experience in an EPCM, consulting, or design office environment.

Professional registration (or working towards it).

Strong experience with materials handling and process plant equipment (e.g. conveyors, crushers, mills, pumps).

Strong leadership and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Experience across study phases (concept, pre-feasibility, feasibility).

Knowledge of project estimating and design planning.
