We are a leading player in the renewable energy sector, as an EPC contractor and Independent Power Producer (IPP) enabling us to deliver innovative solutions to combat climate change. We are a focussed solutions provider to Commercial and Industrial (C&I) customers, with projects spanning across Southern Africa and include roof top, carport, ground mount and wheeled solar projects. We also provide operations and maintenance, asset management, metering and monitoring services through our various divisions. As we continue to expand our operations and our expertise in battery energy storage solutions (BESS) and maintain our status as the leading C&I IPP, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Construction Health&Safety Officer to join our team.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE To ensure the effective implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards across all construction sites. The Construction Health&Safety Officer (CHSO) is responsible for proactively identifying hazards, mitigating risks, and ensuring full compliance with legislative requirements and company policies. The role plays a critical part in safeguarding employees, contractors, and stakeholders by promoting a strong safety culture, conducting inspections and audits, managing incident reporting and investigations, and supporting the successful delivery of projects through robust HSE governance and communication.
QUALIFICATIONS
A valid driver’s licence and own car is essential
Tertiary Qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (SAMTRAC or equivalent)
Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
Registered as CHSO at SACPCMP
Fall protection plan developer training is preferred
PREFERRED SKILLS
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Attention to detail and processes
Understanding of a construction environment
Report writing skills
Be medically fit to work on heights
Willingness to work in Sub-Sahara Africa as and when required
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
A minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a SHE Officer in a construction environment
Working knowledge of SHE Systems
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Key Responsibilities
Review and approve site specific HSE plans.
Compile specific health and safety files per project.
Confirm client and contractor 37.2 and Notification of Construction documents are submitted.
Audit sub-contractor’s health and safety files and facilitate communication to stakeholders.
Attend regular site, technical and progress meetings and facilitate site health and safety meetings.
Evaluate and/or identify specific hazards and risks for each project through regular coordinated site inspections.
Ensure health and safety related non-compliances on sites are reported and closed out.
Prepare and test the offices, stores, and projects emergency response plans.
Respond to any incidents reported by issuing a flash report by no later than end of shift.
Facilitate the investigation process and issue investigation reports of HSE related incidents or accidents to all relevant stakeholders in the specified timeframes.
Continually review and innovate or improve current health, safety and environmental processes and policies, as directed from time to time.
Develop and facilitate monthly SHE communications to all staff.
Ensure site orientation or inductions are carried out during the establishment phase of the project.
Must be able to compile a site-specific fall protection and rescue plan.
