Job Summary
The Sales Engineer is responsible for supporting the sales process by providing technical expertise, assisting with product demonstrations, and preparing proposals. This role works closely with senior engineers and sales teams to ensure customer requirements are met. This job profile is intended for early‑career professionals who apply broad theoretical knowledge and require the ability to investigate and analyze problems.Responsibilities
Develop and execute sales strategies to achieve and exceed sales targets for Sulzer pump products and services within the water, wastewater, power generation, and other utility industries. Identify and cultivate strong relationships with key decision‑makers, engineering consultants, contractors, and end‑users within the utilities market.Conduct technical presentations and product demonstrations to potential clients, effectively communicating the value proposition of Sulzer’s solutions. Perform detailed technical analysis of customer requirements, recommending appropriate pump selections and system configurations. Prepare comprehensive technical proposals, quotations, and commercial offers in response to customer inquiries and tenders.Negotiate contracts and terms of sale, ensuring mutually beneficial agreements for Sulzer and its customers. Collaborate closely with internal teams, including engineering, project management, and after‑sales service, to ensure seamless project execution and customer support. Monitor market trends, competitor activities, and industry developments to identify new business opportunities and inform sales strategies.Provide post‑sales technical support and troubleshoot issues to ensure customer satisfaction and repeat business. Maintain accurate sales forecasts, customer records, and activity reports within the company’s CRM system. Represent Sulzer at industry events, trade shows, and conferences to promote brand awareness and generate leads.Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Minimum of 5 years of proven sales experience in the utilities sector, specifically with pumps, rotating equipment, or related fluid handling solutions. In‑depth technical knowledge of pumps, pumping systems, and their applications within water/wastewater treatment, power generation, and other utility environments.Demonstrated ability to understand complex technical requirements and propose effective solutions. Strong commercial acumen with a track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets. Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills. Proficiency in English, both written and verbal.Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships. Self‑motivated, results‑oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CRM software. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel extensively throughout South Africa.Benefits
