Mining Engineer– Analytics – Africa&Middle East Position Description Barrick, Africa&Middle East Region are seeking to recruit a Mining Engineer– Analytics. You will be expected to align to the Barrick DNA and to operate within our mining assets and with our teams. You will contribute in a safe and cost‑effective manner towards achieving targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies and Procedures.
The Mining Engineer– Analytics will operate across various sites, focused on managing short and medium term production data and supporting mining project work and the development of on‑site systems and capacity.
The incumbent will help compile and review weekly and monthly actual and forecast production data, with a view to deliver a summary of actual production, accurate forecasts with informed risk estimates, and to ensure lessons are learnt from prior production issues.
For mining project work, the Mining Engineer– Analytics will work collaboratively and effectively with all technical, operational, logistical, administrative and financial disciplines across the business.
Responsibilities
Work closely with mining production and mining planning teams to understand current production issues, analyse short and medium term production data, and assist in developing and implementing solutions to those issues.
Investigate and support the implementation of options that can be pursued to improve performance or reduce cost.
Review short and medium term plans, inputs, outputs and reconciliation work to ensure that they are accurate, optimised, and practical.
Ensure all plan updates, issues, opportunities and risks are well communicated to Barrick corporate.
Evaluate production risks and opportunities.
Complete forecasts and trade off work.
Assist with preparing of business plans and budgets for required study work.
Manage and/or support mining related projects.
Support broader planning objectives.
Help drawing up standards and templates.
Assist with software related changes across the business.
Identify, notify and/or rectify all unsafe acts, situations and hazards within the workplace.
Ensure all required reports are delivered on time, accurately and with appropriate content.
Work in a collaborative and productive manner with stakeholders across the business and in Barrick corporate.
Respond to a variety of internal and/or external requests.
Perform quality control duties and responsibilities regarding the work being performed.
Train and mentor national engineers.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering
Experience and Requirements
5+ years of Mining Engineering experience.
Completion of mining and infrastructure related trade offs.
An understanding of mining equipment and productivities.
Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles.
Advanced ability to analyse production data, reconcile planned to actual data and build technical models (in Excel).
Strong presentation, oratory, and verbal skills.
Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to team members in a clear manner.
Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization, including executives.
Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
Able to create alternative solutions to problems.
Excellent time management and project management skills.
High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.
Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.
Effective leadership skills required.
While this role does not require mine planning, mine planning skills and software ability would be a strong further skill to have.
