The core functions of the departmentare teaching,training,andresearch.ThedepartmentissituatedonboththeAPKCampusinAucklandPark,and the DFC campus inJohannesburg. Responsibilities: Beactivelyinvolvedincoreactivitiesofthedepartmentsuchasteaching(generalandorganicchemistry), research, academic administration, short-course development, marketing, and community projects.Assumeresponsibilitytoteachmodules(theoryand/orpractical)enlistedfortheChemistryundergraduate programme in the Department. Theincumbentwillalsobeexpectedtoparticipateincurriculumdevelopmentandteachmodulesinpostgraduate programmes. Annuallypublishpeer-reviewedpapersinaccreditedscientificand/oracademicjournals,anddeliverpapersat national and international conferences, commensurate with the level of appointment.Obtainresearchfundingfromexternalfunding bodies. PhDinChemistryor equivalent. Musthaveteachingexperienceatundergraduate level. Thecandidatemustbeabletoteachorganicchemistryatalllevelsandhavesustained,significantresearch outputs in ISI accredited journals. Evidenceofcommunityand/orindustrialinvolvementwouldbe beneficial.Soundcommunicationskillsin English. Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:

Excellentteaching skills. Abilitytoapplyrelevantskillsinaddressing chemistry problems. Abilitytoworkunderpressureandmeettight deadlines. Stronginterpersonalrelationshipsaswellastheabilitytocollaboratewith colleagues. Recommendations:

Teachingexperience,ataHigherEducationInstitutionwillbeanadded advantage. Atrackrecordofpost-graduateresearchsupervisionwillbeanadded advantage. Shouldfitwiththecurrentresearchthrustsofthedepartment(Catalysis,Medicinalchemistry,Materials chemistry,Water treatment and purification).
