SEO Specialist job vacancy in Johannesburg. Our client is seeking a commercially aware and technically capable SEO Expert / Specialist to join their growing digital team. This role will be responsible for driving organic search visibility and ranking performance, ensuring the business achieves optimal non-paid presence across Google and other search platforms.

The successful candidate will play a key role in improving website performance through a combination of technical SEO, on-page optimisation, content alignment, and search performance analysis. As there is currently no dedicated SEO capability within the business, this appointment represents an important strategic build within the broader digital ecosystem.

This opportunity is well suited to a candidate with strong foundational SEO experience, a passion for organic growth, and the ambition to further develop their expertise within a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Organic Performance Optimisation

Drive improvements in organic search rankings, visibility, and website traffic across key search engines.

Implement and manage on-page and technical SEO optimisation strategies.

Conduct keyword research and search intent analysis to identify ranking opportunities.

Optimise website content, landing pages, metadata, internal linking structures, and site architecture.

Monitor organic search performance and recommend ongoing optimisation initiatives.

Technical SEO&Website Optimisation

Perform technical SEO audits and identify issues impacting crawlability, indexing, and ranking performance.

Work closely with development and product teams to specify, prioritise, and implement technical SEO enhancements.

Ensure websites are optimised for page speed, mobile responsiveness, structured data, and Core Web Vitals.

Assist with resolving technical issues such as redirects, duplicate content, broken links, XML sitemaps, robots.txt files, and canonicalisation.

Algorithm Alignment&Search Best Practice

Maintain a strong understanding of Google algorithms and broader search engine ranking factors.

Apply SEO best practices in line with algorithm updates and evolving search trends.

Monitor industry developments and proactively recommend adjustments to maintain and improve organic performance.

Ensure SEO strategies remain compliant with search engine guidelines and best practice standards.

Content&Search Strategy

Collaborate with content, marketing, and digital teams to align SEO objectives with broader acquisition strategies.

Support the creation and optimisation of SEO-focused content that improves rankings and user engagement.

Identify opportunities for content expansion, optimisation, and authority building.

Contribute toward long-term organic growth strategies and digital visibility initiatives.

Reporting&Analytics

Track, analyse, and report on SEO performance metrics including rankings, organic traffic, click-through rates, and conversions.

Utilise tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, or similar platforms to generate insights and recommendations.

Provide regular performance reporting and actionable recommendations to relevant stakeholders.

Requirements:

Previous experience within an SEO-focused role, either in-house or agency side.

Solid understanding of technical SEO principles and organic search optimisation.

Exposure to website CMS platforms and basic web development concepts.

Experience working with SEO and analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, or similar.

Understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and website structures would be advantageous.

Relevant digital marketing or SEO certifications would be beneficial but are not essential.

Skills&Competencies:

Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.

Good understanding of search engine algorithms and ranking methodologies.

High attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical teams.

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Commercial awareness and an understanding of digital acquisition principles.

Self-motivated with a willingness to learn and develop within the SEO field.

Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced environment.
