ECU Art, Culture and Collections is a newly formed area that combines the activation of the existing ECU Art Collection, the development of a brand-new public-facing gallery space at the City Campus with accompanying outward-facing exhibition program, public art activation and the implementation of the Cultural Narrative Framework, recently endorsed by the university. Its mission is to become a leading conduit of formalized art knowledge and experiences into the public domain, as well as to enhance student and staff experiences across their ECU cultural journeys. It leads in best practice in collection care and maintenance, as well as in Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) and community and artist engagement. The exhibition program aims to provide the local and national communities dynamic, innovative and accessible opportunities to connect with art and artists, in the heart of the city at Yagan Square, alongside opportunities for real-life learning for students in a world-class gallery space. About the Opportunity You will join a skilled arts worker team. As a member you will be responsible for: Exhibition Support: Install and reinstall artworks, labels, lighting, and exhibition furniture to gallery standards, including safe handling and transport of materials. Technical Operations: Maintain and prepare gallery spaces and equipment, including AV and LED systems, ensuring readiness in the ECU City Gallery as well as on other campuses. Provide technical support for day-to-day operations, ensuring all equipment is functioning as required, and operate audio-visual and LED systems to support exhibitions and displays. Fabrication and Maintenance: Assist with basic construction, gallery upkeep, and equipment servicing, maintaining accurate records and ensuring all assets are logged and operational. Safety and Compliance: Contribute to WHS procedures, risk assessments, and safe working practices in line with ECU policies. Collaboration: Work across ECU teams and with external partners and contractors to deliver high-quality exhibitions. Employees are required to participate in all ECU, team, and individual planning activities; comply with ECU policies and practices in all aspects of their work and conduct; and ensure the safety and wellbeing of themselves and others by complying with WHS and EO requirements. About you You will be able to demonstrate: Proven ability to work collaboratively in teams. Experience in working in an installation team as part of a collections and exhibitions program Candidate must hold, or be able to work towards, qualifications or tickets in high risk work (eg forklift, EWP, rigging) Demonstrated ability to safely handle and install artworks or comparable materials, with a strong understanding of professional standards around packing and storage. Competence in the use of hand tools, power tools, and working at heights using ladders or scaffolding. Ability to work flexibly across a range of tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment, and ability to travel to relevant campuses. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and with external partners. Sound understanding of workplace health and safety procedures, with the ability to apply these in practical settings.
