Description
Job Purpose To lead and coordinate all procurement activities for the zinc mine, ensuring the efficient, compliant, and cost‑effective acquisition of materials, equipment, services, and contracts. The Procurement Lead supports engineering, maintenance, operations, and projects by managing supplier performance, reducing costs, ensuring supply continuity, and maintaining procurement governance standards.
Key Responsibilities Procurement Leadership&Coordination
Lead the procurement team (buyers, expeditors, admin) and manage daily procurement activities.
Align procurement activities with production, maintenance, and project requirements.
Ensure procurement KPIs are met: cost savings, supplier performance, turnaround times.
Sourcing&Tender Management
Conduct sourcing of strategic, critical, and high‑value items, including engineering spares, mining equipment components, consumables, and contracted services.
Prepare and manage RFQs, RFPs, and tender processes.
Perform commercial evaluations, price comparisons, and contract recommendations.
Supplier Management&Negotiation
Negotiate pricing, terms, and service‑level agreements to maximise value.
Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships.
Conduct supplier assessments, performance reviews, and risk evaluations.
Ensure suppliers meet safety, quality, and compliance standards.
Procurement Governance&Compliance
Ensure procurement aligns with company policies and procedures.
Comply with MHSA‑related procurement requirements.
Meet BBBEE and local procurement targets.
Adhere to contracting and commercial governance standards.
Maintain full audit trails for all procurement activities.
Cost Control&Optimization
Identify cost‑saving opportunities through strategic sourcing, supplier consolidation, improved contract terms, and long‑term agreements.
Work with finance to forecast procurement budgets and track expenditures.
Materials&Equipment Procurement Support
Collaborate with maintenance planners and engineers to procure critical spares (motors, gearboxes, pumps, VSDs) and process plant components.
Procure electrical, mechanical, and instrumentation equipment.
Ensure correct specification, OEM compliance, and technical clarity in orders.
Contracts&Service Procurement
Support contract creation, administration, renewals, and performance tracking.
Manage procurement of engineering services, shutdown contractors, civil&construction services, OEM field technicians.
Coordinate with legal and compliance teams where needed.
ERP / Systems Management
Oversee procurement transactions in systems such as SAP, Pragma, OnKey, Oracle, or similar.
Maintain accurate purchase orders, pricing, supplier data, and catalogues.
Monitor open POs, delivery schedules, and order follow‑ups.
Reporting&Analytics
Produce procurement reports covering spend analysis, supplier performance, cost savings tracking, procurement cycle times, and compliance metrics.
Provide insights to management for strategic planning.
Required Skills&Competencies Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of procurement best practices and supply chain processes.
Experience with SAP/MM or equivalent ERP procurement modules.
Understanding of mining and mineral processing supply requirements.
Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
Ability to interpret technical specifications (mechanical, electrical, instrumentation).

Qualifications&Experience Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric).
8+ years procurement experience in mining, industrial, or heavy engineering environment.
2+ years in a supervisory or lead procurement role.
Computer literacy and ERP proficiency.
Preferred
Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Procurement, Logistics, or Business.
CIPS qualification (Chartered Institute of Procurement&Supply).
Experience in zinc, copper, lead, or base metals processing.
Experience in contract management and tender processes.
Understanding of BBBEE and local supplier development requirements.
Physical&Work Environment Conditions
Office‑based with occasional visits to plant, workshops, contractor sites, or warehouse.
Standard working hours, with extended hours possible during shutdowns or critical requisitions.
Must be able to interact with engineering, maintenance, operations, and suppliers onsite.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Procurement cycle time and PO turnaround.
Cost savings achieved.
Supplier on‑time delivery (OTD).
Procurement compliance and audit results.
Availability of critical spares and materials.
Quality and accuracy of procurement documentation and ERP data.
