Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership&Management: Oversee all engineering and maintenance activities across the operation; coordinate engineering teams, supervisors, and planning functions; ensure adherence to engineering standards and best practices; monitor equipment performance, reliability, and maintenance execution.
Fleet&Plant Maintenance: Manage maintenance of heavy mining equipment including ADTs, excavators, FELs, dozers, graders, and crushers; oversee plant infrastructure such as screens, conveyors, generators, and lighting plants; ensure high equipment availability and effective breakdown management.
Preventative Maintenance&Reliability: Implement and manage preventative maintenance (PM) systems; drive improvements in reliability and reduce unplanned downtime; oversee shutdown planning and execution; conduct root cause analysis and monitor reliability trends (MTBF / MTTR).
Safety&Legal Compliance: Ensure full compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA); enforce PTO (Permit to Operate) and lockout procedures; conduct engineering inspections and stop unsafe work where required; ensure proper legal appointments and engineering supervision.
Contractor&Team Management: Manage engineering teams including foremen, artisans, planners, and contractors; oversee contractor performance, compliance, and OEM engagements; drive accountability, discipline, and team performance.
Budget&Cost Control: Monitor and control engineering budgets and maintenance costs; manage expenditure on spares, fuel, and consumables; support cost reduction and operational efficiency initiatives.
Reporting&Operations Support: Prepare and review daily, weekly, and monthly engineering reports; track KPIs, breakdown trends, and maintenance performance; support production through effective engineering coordination; monitor parts availability and manage procurement risks.
Key Criteria&Qualifications
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering qualification OR Qualified Artisan with significant engineering management experience.
Advantageous: Management or leadership development training.
Strong background in reliability engineering and maintenance planning.
Minimum Requirements
Minimum 8–10 years’ mining engineering experience.
Proven experience in open cast mining operations (essential).
Crushing plant experience (advantageous).
Demonstrated leadership and engineering management experience.
Technical Knowledge
Heavy mining equipment maintenance and fleet management.
Crushing plant systems and plant infrastructure.
Preventative maintenance and planning systems.
Reliability engineering and root cause analysis.
Hydraulic and electrical systems.
Workshop and contractor management.
