Main purpose of the job To implement the required pharmacy related duties for PHRU Clinic access according to PHRU Standard Operating Procedures, Sponsor requirements and local (South African) Regulatory requirements.
Location PHRU - Tshepong Hospital, Matlosana, Klerksdorp
Key performance areas
Execute all duties, responsibilities and functions in a professional manner within applicable legislation
Ensure compliance and adherence to GCP and GPP and adherence to unit and department specific SOPs
Perform all allocated general dispensary duties
Supervision of Basic, Post Basic and qualified Pharmacist Assistants
Ensure any pharmacy related problems identified in clinical study/project or access programme are immediately brought to the attention of the PI, Programme/Project Manager and Pharmacy Management where applicable
To be the primary liaison for allocated projects with the study/study PI and/or Programme/Project Manager where applicable, for any pharmacy related issues
Meet with sponsor/programme personnel at regularly intervals and with regulatory personnel at any monitoring/auditing visit(s)
Ensure a thorough understanding and follow the project protocols, unit Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Practice Guidelines (WPGs) and the Study Specific Procedure (SSP) manuals
Develop project/study specific procedures and general pharmacy plans in accordance to sponsor requirements
To ensure that medication (treatment/study drug) is ordered, received, dispensed, returned and destroyed appropriately according to specific sponsor/study requirements and to ensure that these actions are documented accurately and timeously
Safe storage and monitoring of IP
Ensure that drug accountability is done and completed accurately for each subject enrolled in a study according to all prescribed guidelines and regulations
Ensure that accurate compliance monitoring is done and documented appropriately
To instruct patients on the proper use of the drugs that they are taking and stress the importance of following these instructions and to take any required corrective actions where problems have been identified
Perform monthly stock checks and any required study specific inventory controls and reports
Contribute to the pharmacy’s expansion plan where required, to assure adequate and effective running of the pharmacy
To develop/implement and conduct Quality Control and Assurance (QC and QA) activities for designated clinical trials and troubleshoot should problems exist in QC and QA processes
Refer to monitoring reports, minutes of meetings, identify trends and develop training sessions based on required and identified problem areas
Meet deadlines for reports/feedback/action to projects and pharmacy management timeously
Ensure all queries are attended to appropriately and in a timely manner
Assist both internal and external stakeholders for all pharmacy related queries
Ability to work on different protocols concurrently
Participate in team meetings as required and provide constructive feedback and support to other team members
Provide any necessary training to pharmacy staff to ensure effective running of studies
Responsible Pharmacist to ensure that all medication is dispensed before the end of each day
All necessary steps must be taken to ensure the participant is never without medication
Require good organizational, administrative and analytical skills; good writing and presentation skills; attention to detail; Problem solving skills; Good time management skills
Ability to work independently but must be a team player when required
Assertive; Proactive; Innovative; Flexible; Ability to train study teams if required
Develop/review pharmacy related SOP’s
It is expected that you will be willing to work in a complex and diverse environment where patience and precision in dealing with co-workers is crucial
Required minimum education and training
Matric
Pharmacy Degree (B.Pharm)
Experience in sterile/vaccine preparation is an advantage
Professional Body Registration
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council
Required minimum work experience
At least one year working experience as a Pharmacist
Clinical Research experience will be advantageous
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
Excellent administration skills
Ability to work under pressure in a dynamic environment
Sound problem solving skills
Possess strong organisational skills and excellent time management skills
Attention to detail and accuracy is essential
Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to meet pharmacy and project needs
Proficient computer skills
