Workshop Assistant, Strand

A well-established company in the scrap metal and recycling industry is seeking a practical and hardworking Workshop Assistant to support maintenance and repair operations across its busy industrial sites.

This role is ideal for a hands-on individual with a strong interest in mechanical work and a willingness to learn within a demanding workshop and production environment. The business operates across multiple South African locations and is transitioning toward AI-driven machinery and digital systems, creating opportunities for individuals who are eager to grow their technical skills in a modern industrial environment.

• Assist technicians with servicing, repairs, and maintenance of machinery and equipment
• Prepare tools, materials, and work areas for daily maintenance activities
• Maintain workshop cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
• Support basic diagnostics and fault-finding processes
• Travel to operational sites to assist with breakdowns and repairs
• Use modern diagnostic equipment and AI-supported systems
• Assist with general workshop duties and operational support when required

Minimum Requirements

• Basic mechanical knowledge, preferably relating to diesel machinery, heavy equipment, or industrial machinery
• Must be fluent in Afrikaans and English
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel between sites
• Physically fit and comfortable performing hands-on work
• Willingness to learn and follow instructions from senior technicians
• Basic computer literacy
• Ability to work in physically demanding industrial and workshop environments
