Requirements

National Senior Certificate, MBCHB/MBBCH or equivalent qualification that allows registration with HPCSA as Medical Specialist in Internal Medicine.

Must be adaptable, disciplined, self‑confident, able to work independently and under pressure, willing to work beyond normal hours.

Ability to work in a multi‑disciplinary team.

No experience required.

Duties

Interview, investigate, diagnose and oversee patient treatment.

Improve quality of care by providing appropriate clinical care.

Supervise junior medical staff; render after‑hour duties (night, weekend, public holiday) to provide continuous care.

Attend relevant administrative meetings such as mortality and near‑miss meetings and complete MEDCO legal documents in a timely manner.

Participate in the hospital’s academic programme and research activities in the discipline.

Maintain proper and accurate records as required legally and ethically.

Report to the head of unit on service delivery, clinical audits and quality improvement plans.

Assist the HOD in implementing and monitoring compliance with National Core Standards.

Rotate through related departments at various hospitals within outreach programmes.

Prepare and write reports and assist the clinical head with administrative responsibilities.

Commuted overtime is compulsory.
