Senior Utilityman - Power Station Operations, Middelburg

Job Summary Eskom Holdings SOC Ltd is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Utilityman to join our Power Station Operations team. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of our power generation facilities. The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience in power station operations, a deep understanding of utility systems, and the ability to supervise and mentor junior personnel. This position demands a strong commitment to safety, operational excellence, and proactive problem‑solving.

Key Responsibilities

Operate, monitor, and maintain power station utility systems in accordance with Eskom standards and procedures.

Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary systems to ensure operational reliability.

Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuity of operations.

Assist in the coordination of shutdowns, start‑ups, and emergency procedures.

Supervise and mentor junior utility staff, providing guidance and training to promote professional development and operational competency.

Maintain accurate operational records, logs, and reports for management review and regulatory compliance.

Ensure compliance with all occupational health, safety, and environmental policies.

Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to optimize performance and implement process improvements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Completion of a relevant trade certification or technical diploma (e.g., Mechanical, Electrical, or Power Engineering).

Extensive knowledge of power station utility systems, including steam, water treatment, and auxiliary systems.

Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and operational manuals.

Proficiency in standard operational software and computer‑based monitoring systems.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Experience

Minimum of

5–7 years

of experience in power station operations or a related utility environment.

Proven experience in supervising teams and guiding technical staff in operational procedures.

Previous experience in handling emergency situations and adhering to strict safety protocols.

Working Hours

Full-time, with shift work including day, night, and weekend rotations.

Availability for on‑call duties and emergency response as required.
