Production Foreman, Mmabatho Unit 4

Purpose of Role

To manage, maintain and optimise production mining operations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, managing production schedules, and supervising a team to achieve production targets in a cost-effective manner across Tharisa Minerals (TM).

Role Context

Operational Management

• Manage and drive the execution of critical daily production tasks across the various mining blocks within the function as it relates to production requirements to ensure timely and efficient execution of tasks and minimise risks of production targets not being met.
• Allocate and oversee the planning and scheduling of production activities according to the established plan in line with standard operating procedures.
• Manage the production taking place across the various blocks on the mine by monitoring the capacity of the blocks and the team to support the various machines to mine the ore and waste on the mine.
• Monitor and oversee the management of the planned task observations (PTO) ensuring that Supervisors are enforcing the respective procedures and reducing risk to both the employee and the work site across the relevant production spaces within TM.
• Coordinate work schedules, check and sign-off job cards to ensure that tasks are assigned and completed according to the expected turnaround time

Resource Management

• Determine resource needs within own area of responsibility to achieve individual role outcomes.
• Review requests for required assets and resources for the fulfilment of work duties to attain quality work outputs.
• Use assets and resources optimally within own and teams’ area of responsibility.
• Monitor the use of assets and resources within the team and own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed.
• Provide staff with day-to-day direction and tasks aligned with Departmental procedures, to enable the usage of less resources more efficiently.
• Manage team and support services including standby resources during breakdowns by communicating failures/breakdowns in process to limit downtime while adhering to safety standards.
• Collaborate with the various functional areas across to coordinate and manage the activities of the Production sites ensuring breakdowns and services are prioritised and tended to, based on urgency and criticality throughout the shift.

Stakeholder Relations

• Engage with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of specialisation, as directed by the Engineering Foreman.
• Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.

Compliance, Risk and Safety

• Develop an appropriate plant specific Risk Management Policy and appropriate Procedures and Standards (Codes of Practice).
• Oversee the implementation of a proactive approach to all safety protocols by creating awareness of hazards and behavior to enforce compliance to minimise risk of accidents and injuries within the plant.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, provide relevant and necessary training to ensure all employees adhere to safety guidelines all the time.
• Conduct risk and safety inspections, identifying and reporting any risks within the allocated area of operations and completing the requisite checklist recording the associated risks.
• Comply with all legal and charter requirements for your Production team including the condition of service cards and the pre-shift checks of the designated plant.
• Conduct continuous risk assessments throughout the day by proactively identifying and reporting identified risks within the areas of operation and collaborating with the various departments to support and maintain a safe working environment.
• Monitor subordinates’ performance within their respective roles, enforcing adherence to standard operating procedures and providing mentoring and coaching as needed to ensure optimal delivery of services within the respective roles.
