Role Overview A leading international fertiliser and biostimulant organisation is seeking a knowledgeable, field‑driven Agronomist to support both the sales team and customers with expert agronomic advice. This is a non-sales, field‑based technical role, focused on optimising crop performance across a diverse range of row crops and high‑value crops. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening customer relationships, improving on‑farm results, and supporting continued business growth within South Africa.
Job Purpose The Field Agronomist will provide technical agronomic support to Technical Sales Representatives and customers by developing tailored fertilisation and crop nutrition programmes. This role requires a hands‑on individual who is comfortable working extensively in the field, engaging directly with farmers, and translating technical data into practical, actionable farming solutions.
Key Responsibilities– Agronomic Support
Provide technical support to sales representatives through regular on‑farm visits (3–4 days per week)
Deliver expert advice on crop nutrition and fertilisation strategies
Interpret soil and plant tissue analysis results
Develop customised fertilisation programmes
Diagnose crop issues, including nutrient deficiencies and environmental stress factors
Training&Technical Development
Support the sales team with product knowledge and crop‑specific training
Assist in upskilling Technical Sales Representatives on agronomic best practices
Ensure alignment between product positioning and practical application
Field Trials&Demonstrations
Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of field trials
Evaluate trial results and provide data‑driven recommendations
Support product positioning through evidence‑based results
Client&Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, distributors, and internal teams
Provide ongoing technical support to improve crop performance
Act as a trusted advisor on soil health and crop nutrition
Territory&Market Support
Work across a variety of crops, including maize, wheat, soybeans, fruits, and vegetables
Stay informed on regional farming practices and seasonal trends
Provide insights to support commercial strategy and product positioning
Minimum Requirements– Education&Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Agronomy, Soil Science, Agriculture, or a related field
Minimum of 4–5 years’ practical, field‑based agronomy experience
Proven experience with row crops (maize, wheat, soybeans)
Strong knowledge of soil science and plant nutrition
Experience interpreting soil and plant tissue analyses
Valid driver’s licence with willingness to travel extensively

Strong technical agronomic expertise
Ability to translate complex data into practical solutions
Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
Strong analytical and problem‑solving ability
Good organisational and planning skills
Ability to work both independently and within a team
