Our client based in PMB, in the Transport and Logistics industry, is currently looking for a General Manager with strong transport and linehaul experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Grade 12,
- Related tertiary qualification – NQF 6 / NQF 7.
- Minimum of 8-10 years experience in a Transport Management role and Linehaul exp

Key Performance Indicators:
- Coordinate, facilitate and manage a large team, monitoring and developing the entire team and supervisors/team leaders and troubleshoot and provide solutions for issues of a moderate to complex scope and oversee day-to-day operations and to achieve objectives and improve operational efficiencies.
- Setting departmental objectives.
- Effect necessary communication and motivation to staff. Monitor individual performance via observation and Performance Appraisal and Counsel and discipline as necessary. Communicating with Supervisors, Peers, or Subordinates.
- Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, e-mail, or in person.
- Organize to service each business division while maintaining and improving overall operational and departmental efficiencies and Interface cross-functionally at all levels within the divisions of the company.
- Develop and maintain a productive work team via training and career development and consistently promote a strong corporate culture, quality, and high-performance work teams.
- Develop and ensure that established policies, rules, and regulations, and procedures are followed and develop visible procedures and key performance indicators to monitor quality and regular measurements to determine the effectiveness of procedures implemented.
- Responsible for the financial management of the department and must adhere to budget and profitability targets.
- Resume overall responsibilities for Occupational Health Safety for the Departments at PMB Head Office. Familiarize yourself with all aspects of OHS act. regulations and codes of practice.
- Establish the appropriate structures to ensure that all statutory requirements are complied with at all times. Monitor implementation, maintenance, compliance and regularly report to the C.E.
- Responsible for all of the dispatching, routing, and tracking of delivery vehicles. Developing and nurturing customer relationships and resolving and managing queries and complaints courteously and efficiently.
- Plato & other Software: Be acquainted, trained & skilled to operate programs.
- Participate in divisional management teams and provide direct support to the divisions.
- Making Decisions and Solving Problems - Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Planning routes and load scheduling for multi-drop deliveries.
- Booking in deliveries and liaising with customers.
- Allocating and recording resources and movements on the transport planning system.
- Ensuring all partners in the supply chain are working effectively and efficiently to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicating effectively with clients and responding to their requirements.
- Booking sub-contractors and ensuring they deliver within agreed terms.
- Directing all transportation activities.
- Developing transportation relationships.
- Monitoring transport costs.
- Negotiating and bargaining transportation prices.
- Dealing with the effects of congestion.
- Confronting climate change issues by implementing transport strategies and monitoring an organisation's carbon footprint.
- Cost-cutting initiatives are a must in order to ensure that departmental budgets are maintained and not exceeded. This applies to all expenditures relevant to your department/division.
- HR Functions, Staff motivation and Internal Training - performance appraisals, recruitment, employment equity, salaries and wages, positive discipline, performance-related pay, and work-life balance. Staff motivation will include employee engagement, empowering employees, rewarding employees, involving and communicating with employees, recognition of employees, redesigning jobs, and flexi-time. Internal training will include training, coaching and guidance, career paths, personal development plans, and skills development initiatives.
