Project Director (36 Months Fixed Term Contract - Wits NCDRD), Hilton

Main purpose of the job:

• The Project Director will lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of complex, multi-phase projects, ensuring operational and scientific goals are achieved
• Responsibilities include supervising diverse teams, managing resources and budgets, and ensuring alignment with ethical and regulatory standards
• This role demands innovation in workflows, data management, and process automation to improve project delivery and stakeholder engagement

Location:

• Garlington Estate, Pietermaritzburg, Hilton – KwaZulu-Natal

Key performance areas:

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement project strategies aligned with organizational goals
• Oversight of Multiple Projects: Ensure the successful execution of project phases within budget and timelines
• Data Management and Integration: Supervise data collection and analysis processes while maintaining integrity
• Team Supervision and Mentorship: Foster team growth through training and mentorship
• Community and Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with local and international stakeholders
• Process Improvement and Documentation: Identify inefficiencies and implement enhancements

Required minimum education and training:

• Master's Degree and currently registered for a PhD in Public Health, Research Psychology, or a related field
• Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subjects Protection (HSP) Certifications
• Proficiency in data management tools such as REDCap and advanced project management methodologies

Required minimum work experience:

• At least 8 years of experience managing complex research or clinical projects
• Minimum 3 years in a project manager role, supervising teams of 10+ members
• Demonstrated experience in protocol development, study design, and implementation
• Published in academic journals

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:

• Experience in community engagement and stakeholder relationship management
• Proven track record of process optimization and automation in project management
• Strong analytical skills to address project challenges effectively
