Job Description Dis-Chem Pharmacies The Avenues has an opportunity available for a Pharmacist Assistant Basic Qualified to join the team. The main purpose of this role will equip learners to understand the underlying principles of all of the major areas related to the pharmaceutical environment and promoting the notion of quality lifelong learning.
Responsibilities
Sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances;
Assist with compounding, manipulation or preparation of a non-sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and Standard Operating Procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist.
Assist with manufacturing of a non-sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and Standard Operating Procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist.
Assist with re‑packaging of medicine.
Assist with distribution and control of stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances.
Provide information to individuals to promote health.
Accurately interpret scripts and act in a professional and responsible manner within legal requirements in accordance with the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
Capture patient details accurately and verify the patient’s details on the system.
Ensure accurate picking/packing/labeling and checking of medication and be aware of common dosages as well as important drug interactions.
Give accurate instructions to patients regarding correct use of supplied medicine.
Keep abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
Ensure that all medications are checked for accuracy by a pharmacist and signed by a pharmacist.
Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self‑medication counter and front‑shop.
Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports as requested by the dispensary manager and follow up appointments.
Explain all medical aid costs to patients.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric with Life Science and or Physical Science with at least an average of 50%.
Basic Pharmacist Assistant Qualification.
Competencies
Ability to work under pressure.
Proficiency in English and a second language (read, write, speak).
Deadline‑driven.
Advantageous
Fluency in a third language.
Special Conditions of Employment
South African citizen.
Clear MIE, criminal and credit record.
Driver’s license and/or own reliable transport.
