5* Boutique Hotel in Ballito is looking for a Host I Duty Manager.
 
The Host is responsible for delivering the day-to-day guest experience, ensuring that service is intuitive, calm and consistently aligned with the property’s standards.
 
This is a highly guest-facing, hands-on role. The Host leads service on shift, supports the
team across departments and ensures that every detail of the guest journey is well considered and seamlessly executed.
 
The role requires presence, judgement and attention to detail. This is a shift-based role requiring flexibility, including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
 
The Host is expected to spend the majority of their time in guest areas, leading service and
supporting the team.

Duties:
 
Guest Experience & Hosting:
 
Take ownership of the in-house guest experience during shift
Welcome and engage with guests in a natural, professional and personalised manner
Anticipate guest needs and respond proactively
Manage special requests, occasions and guest preferences
Handle guest concerns and service recovery calmly and effectively
Ensure a strong, consistent hosting presence across all guest areas
 
Operational Oversight:
 
Oversee daily operations across Front Office, F&B, Housekeeping and Spa during shift
Ensure smooth service flow, particularly during key periods (arrivals, meals, evenings)
Support and guide team members on the floor
Step in operationally where required to maintain service levels
Coordinate effectively with all departments
 
Service Standards & Attention to Detail:
 
Ensure standards are upheld at all times
Monitor presentation of rooms, public areas and dining spaces
Maintain the correct ambiance across the property
Conduct regular checks throughout the shift
 
Team Support & Leadership:
 
Lead by example through professionalism, energy and attention to detail
Support and guide junior team members
Assist in training and developing staff on the floor
Ensure clear communication between departments during shift
 
Administrative & Systems (Secondary to Guest Focus):
 
Assist with front office systems (Opera Cloud) and POS (Micros) where required
Support daily reporting and handovers
Complete end-of-day procedures and night audit when scheduled
Maintain accurate records of guest preferences and feedback
 
Health, Safety & Compliance:
 
Ensure safe, clean and hygienic working practices always
Adhere to company policies and operational procedures
Ensure guest and staff safety is prioritised
 
Requirements:
 
Previous experience in a guest-facing hospitality role
Experience in a luxury or boutique hotel environment preferred
Basic understanding of hotel operations across departments
Familiarity with systems such as Opera Cloud and Micros advantageous
Naturally guest-focused with strong interpersonal skills
High attention to detail and awareness of surroundings
Calm under pressure with good decision-making ability
Hands-on and willing to support across all departments
Professional, well-presented and well spoken
Strong sense of ownership and accountability
