Barista, Pretoria

Job Purpose:

The Barista is responsible for preparing and serving a variety of coffee drinks, along with pastries and cookies. The Barista must be able to work quickly and efficiently while maintaining a positive customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Coffee Preparation:

   • Prepare and serve coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks.
   • Ensure consistency and quality of each coffee drink prepared.
   • Clean and maintain equipment, including espresso machines and grinders.

2. Customer Service:

   • Greet all customers with a friendly and welcoming demeanor.
   • Provide exceptional customer service by understanding customer needs and providing recommendations when necessary.
   • Handle customer complaints professionally and resolve issues promptly.

3. Cash Handling:

   • Process payments accurately using the cash register.
   • Ensure that the cash register is balanced at the end of the shift.
   • Follow company procedures for opening and closing the cash register.

4. Product Knowledge:

   • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coffee products, brewing methods, and trends.
   • Provide information about coffee blends, preparation methods, and various products offered in the store.

5. Inventory Management:

   • Assist with ordering and restocking coffee beans, milk, and other supplies.
   • Monitor inventory levels and notify management when supplies are low.

6. Cleanliness:

   • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the coffee shop.
   • Follow health and safety guidelines when handling food and beverages.
   • Ensure that the work area is clean and sanitized throughout the shift.

7. Teamwork:

   • Collaborate with other team members to ensure smooth operation of the coffee shop.
   • Assist in training new employees when necessary.

8. Compliance:

   • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
   • Comply with all health and safety regulations.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a Barista or in a similar role preferred.
• Knowledge of coffee brewing methods and equipment.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Ability to stand for long periods.
• Basic math skills for cash handling.

Working Conditions:

• The Barista will work in a café environment with a high volume of customers.
• May require early morning, late evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
• Standing for extended periods.

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

• Experience in a café or food service environment preferred.
