Purpose of the Role
You will manage and drive delivery, quality and profitability within the department, while fostering employee wellbeing and a positive, engaged culture. The role is responsible for overseeing and directing departmental operations, and ensuring effective alignment and integration with the wider organisation. This role reports to the position of Production Manager.Requirements
Matric / Grade 12 is essential Minimum of 3 years’ "production management" experience within a manufacturing environment is essential "Final assembly" experience is essential Automotive / aircraft / machine / engineering industries is required Proven experience in building, developing, and leading high performance teamsKey Responsibility Areas
Company Strategy&Alignment Ensure day‑to‑day departmental activities align with company strategy and goals. Coordinate support from other departments (e.g. R&D, Stores, Maintenance) as required. Work closely with upstream and downstream departments to ensure smooth operations. Human Resources
Manage and coordinate leave within the department for 40 staff. Implement and administer company policies, attendance, overtime, and corrective actions. Provide cover for Supervisor/Foreman absenteeism where required. Delivery&Operations
Plan, prioritise, and coordinate production, manpower, and projects. Ensure effective shift‑to‑shift coordination. Oversee and manage process changes, trials, and implementations. Track, analyse, and report on production metrics, KPIs, targets, and variances. Develop and implement corrective action plans where targets are not met.Ensure clear, well‑defined, approved, standardised work methods are in place along with verification systems to ensure adherence to them. People Management&Development
Appoint, lead, and coach Supervisors. Identify talent and drive training, development, and cross‑training initiatives. Foster a positive team culture and maintain high morale. Conduct performance reviews for Supervisors and team members. Quality&Continuous Improvement
Ensure routine quality checks are in place and effectively executed. Address and close out quality issues promptly. Lead and coordinate continuous improvement initiatives. Maintenance
Coordinate major maintenance activities impacting the department. Ensure regular tool and machinery checks are conducted, recorded, and reported. Employee Wellness&Safety
Maintain overall responsibility for departmental health and safety compliance. Promote a safe and healthy working environment. Cost Management
Identify opportunities for cost reduction. Drive and implement cost‑saving initiatives. Preferred
Sound knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and practices. Advanced Microsoft Excel proficiency. Strong administrative and organisational skills. Collaborative approach with strong problem‑solving abilities. Core Competencies
Leadership&People Development: Ability to coach, provide feedback, manage conflict, and motivate teams effectively. Quality Mindset: Commitment to first‑time‑right quality and data‑driven decision‑making. Operational Excellence: Strong capability in scheduling, capacity planning, and improving throughput.Communication: Clear, effective communication across all levels of the organisation.
