Job Description
Dis-Chem Pharmacies requires the services of a reputable Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Glenfair store. The portfolio includes provision of pharmaceutical care, taking responsibility for patients’ medicine‑related needs, and ensuring these needs are met.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric
Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Working experience on Unisolv
Computer literate– MS Office
Sound numerical skills
Strong command of the English language and a second language
Willing and able to work retail hours
Advantageous
Knowledge of Retail / FMCG operations
3rd Additional Language
Knowledge of or experience in SAP and E‑Scripting
Drug and family planning and complementary medicine
Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
Assist with the compounding, manipulation or preparation of a non‑sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and SOPs approved by the responsible pharmacist
Assist with the manufacturing of a non‑sterile medicine or scheduled substance according to a formula and SOPs approved by the responsible pharmacist
Assist with re‑packaging of medicine
Assist with the distribution and control of stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances
Assist with ordering of medicine and scheduled substances up to, and including, Schedule 6 according to instructions of a person authorised under the Medicines Act
Assist with reading and preparation of prescriptions, including selection, manipulation or compounding, labelling and supply in an appropriate container following pharmacist evaluation
Accurately interpret scripts within legal requirements in accordance with the SAPC
Capture script details accurately and verify patients’ details in the system
Ensure accurate picking, packing, labelling and checking of medication and awareness of common dosages and drug interactions
Give accurate instructions to patients regarding correct use of medicine supplied
Keep abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and claims requirements
Ensure all medications are checked for accuracy and signed by a pharmacist
Advise and assist patients at the dispensary, self‑medication and front‑shop
Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports and appointments as requested by the dispensary manager
Explain medical aid costs to patients
Provide health promotion information to individuals
Process paperwork necessary for accurate submission of claims to medical aids
Correct errors on scripts rejected by medical aid
Ensure authorisation of chronic, HIV and AIDS and oncology medication
Maintain customer profiles in the system
Merge profiles locally and notify UCS for central merge
Take note of any message on the customer profile and take suitable action
Report low or out‑of‑stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager
Receive dispensary stock per Dis‑Chem SOPs and merchandise per FEFO
Facilitate bi‑annual stock takes
Exercise stock, cash and asset control
Competencies– Essential
