We are looking for Canteen Cooks based in Sandton or nearby areas. The successful candidates must have experience in food preparation, basic cooking methods, food safety procedures, and working in a fast-paced canteen or catering environment. Candidates must be reliable, well-organised, and able to work as part of a kitchen team to ensure that meals are prepared and served according to required standards.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation and cooking of daily meals according to the menu.
• Ensure that food is prepared, handled, and served in line with food safety requirements.
• Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and food preparation areas.
• Assist with portion control to minimise wastage.
• Support the Chef and kitchen team with daily food production.
• Ensure that kitchen equipment and utensils are cleaned and stored correctly.
• Assist with receiving, packing, and rotating stock when required.
• Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures. Report shortages, damaged stock, or equipment issues to the relevant supervisor.
• Assist with ad-hoc food service duties as and when required.

 
Experience & Qualification

• Matric will be advantageous.
• Relevant cooking or food preparation training will be advantageous.
• 1–2 years’ experience working in a canteen, kitchen, catering, or food service environment.
• Basic knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and portion control
• First Aid / Fire Fighting / OHS qualifications will be an added advantage.
