Credit Risk Analyst - Cape Town - up to R700k per annum, Soweto

A prominent retail organization is looking to appoint a Credit Risk Analyst within its Risk&Analytics team. This is a key strategic position focused on using data‑driven insights to shape customer strategies, enhance credit portfolio performance, and support overall business growth. The successful candidate will be highly analytical and numerically strong, with proven experience in credit risk management and the ability to distil complex data into clear, actionable recommendations suited for senior leadership and Board‑level stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Conduct in‑depth analysis of credit risk data, developing models to evaluate customer creditworthiness and overall portfolio performance.

Convert complex analytical findings into clear, practical insights and recommendations for senior management and Board‑level stakeholders.

Contribute to the design and execution of risk strategies aimed at reducing financial exposure while optimising portfolio returns.

Track, analyse, and report on credit risk trends, portfolio quality, and emerging risk factors.

Partner with cross‑functional teams, including Finance, Marketing, and Data Analytics, to ensure risk strategies are aligned with broader business goals.

Develop, maintain, and continuously improve risk reporting dashboards, metrics, and KPIs.

Ensure adherence to regulatory standards and internal risk management frameworks.

Qualifications&Experience

Relevant

postgraduate degree

in mathematical or statistical subjects preferred; B. Com or Business Science degree acceptable.

3+ years' experience in

consumer credit analytics , with proven ability to implement solutions based on analytical findings.

Deep understanding of the credit lifecycle; experience with revolving store cards or credit cards advantageous.

Ability to work efficiently under both structured and unstructured environments.

Experience in

predictive analytics

with a strong numerical and statistical background.

Ability to monitor models and report results to the Board.

Experience mentoring and supporting junior team members.

Experience with

SAS

(Base, Enterprise Guide, or SAS Viya) strongly advantageous.

Knowledge of

SAS SQL or Python

for analytics is an advantage.
