Port Elizabeth, South Africa | Posted on 04/17/2026 Our client is seeking an experienced SHEQ Officer to join the Port Elizabeth team, Responsibilities
Implement and maintain SHE systems in compliance with:
Occupational Health and Safety Act (Act 85 of 1993) Environmental legislation and permits
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments Identify hazards and ensure effective control measures are implemented Facilitate incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions Maintain SHE records, registers, and statutory documentation Coordinate medical surveillance and fitness-for-duty requirementsEnsure correct use of PPE and enforce site safety rules Assist with emergency preparedness and response planning Conduct internal quality audits and inspections Monitor adherence to company procedures, work instructions, and client specifications Assist with document control and quality records managementConduct SHEQ inductions for employees, contractors, and visitors Facilitate toolbox talks, safety briefings, and SHE awareness campaigns Assist in compiling training needs analyses and maintaining training records Requirements
National Diploma / Degree in: Safety Management, Environmental Health SAMTRAC / NEBOSH or similar safety qualification (advantageous) 2–5 years’ experience in a SHEQ role Practical experience with audits, inspections, and incident investigations Strong knowledge of South African SHE legislationFamiliarity with ISO standards (ISO 45001, ISO 9001, ISO 14001) Risk assessment and hazard identification competency
