Description

MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma/Degree in Conservation, Wildlife, Environmental Education or related field
  • Fully registered guides with DEAT and the Local Registrar of Guides (ESSENTIAL)
  • In possession of a valid FGASA Level 1 and all valid certification to legally operate as a field guide (ESSENTIAL)
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience guiding in a “Big 5” dangerous game area
  • Minimum 1 years' working experience with volunteers and in alien vegetation control
  • SASSETA Firearms Competency (safely storing and using a rifle)
  • Valid First Aid Certificate level 1
  • 4 x 4 driving experience (advantageous)
  • High levels of fitness required – ability to spend long hours driving and working in the bush
  • Must have a “people orientated” personality
  • Must have excellent communication and reporting skills in English
  • Good General knowledge of ecological management of game reserve
  • Code 8 or EB valid driver's licence (no endorsements)
  • Valid PDP licence
  • Proficient on QGIS mapping (advantageous)
  • Must be willing to accept a live-in position, excluding meals
  • Must have a clear criminal record

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS, DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES:

Main duties & Job Function:

  • Gives impactful talks, lectures and presentations on all industry related subjects that leads to volunteer insight and competence
  • Ensure that all volunteer activities fall within the required health and safety standards
  • Works effectively with the Wildlife Department and other strategic partners
  • Works with the CE Manager to ensure effective volunteer operations
  • Consistently imparts knowledge when doing any activities
  • Gives input into and effectively executes impactful volunteer activities on and off reserve in line with company objectives
  • Conduct required administrative and procurement duties in alignment with operational needs and capabilities.
  • Give input into and effectively executes new education projects on reserve or in community areas in coordination with the Education Department

Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities: -

  • Execution of daily operational volunteer activities on and off reserve
  • Conducting community, sports and other interactions as operationally required by die CE Manager.
  • Working in conjunction with Wildlife Department and other strategic partners.
  • Executing current and new projects on the reserve and/or in community areas
  • Working with the wildlife department in ensuring the environmental education of volunteers and local residents
  • Giving talks, lectures, and presentations on all industry related subjects
  • Conducting required administrative and reporting duties in alignment with operational needs and requirements
  • Imparting knowledge and information to volunteers when doing any activity (how and why you are doing something)
  • Conducting walking trails in Big 5 areas and other extra mural activities when required and if qualified to do so
  • Assist the CE Manger in hosting educational visitors
  • Effectively executes impactful volunteer activities on and off reserve in line with company objectives
  • Adhere to company protocol and regulations while working independently as well as with other departments
  • Working with other CE co-ordinators to ensure a consistent and quality volunteer experience.
  • Communication and liaison with other CE co-ordinators to continuously improve on the volunteer offering
  • Ensuring compliance to the rules and regulations when doing on and off property excursions for volunteers
  • Ensuring that all volunteer activities fall within the required health and safety standards
  • Liaison with the CE Manager and facilitating of all donations and contributions by guests
  • Report any animal related irregularities to the Wildlife Manager
  • Assisting the Wildlife Department with certain relevant procedures and activities when required
  • Ensuring that all company facilities are maintained in line with the required standards
  • Ensuring that all vehicles are maintained and serviced in line with the vehicle policy
  • Compiling and submitting weekly, monthly, and annual reports as required
  • Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety standards at all times
