The Role
Our client, a leading global consulting firm, is seeking a competent and commercially minded Project Manager to join their team in Midrand. This role is ideal for a professional who thrives in a diverse environment and is ready to manage the full life cycle of engineering, science, and environmental consulting projects. You will oversee low-to-medium complexity projects (typically up to $USD 250,000 in scope) from initiation through to closure, working closely with technical managers to ensure flawless execution.
Beyond day-to-day project execution, this position holds a vital divisional operational support function. You will play a key role in tracking team utilisation, managing revenue forecasting, monitoring project financials, and ensuring strict governance across the division.

You will oversee low-to-medium complexity projects (typically up to $USD 250,000 in scope) from initiation through to closure, working closely with technical managers to ensure flawless execution.
Beyond day-to-day project execution, this position holds a vital divisional operational support function. You will play a key role in tracking team utilisation, managing revenue forecasting, monitoring project financials, and ensuring strict governance across the division.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all stages of the project life cycle (Initiation, Planning, Execution, Monitoring, and Closure) for local or regional consulting projects.
- Assemble project teams, assign responsibilities, and manage project closure documentation and lessons-learned workshops.
- Take full ownership of project budgets and expenditures, manage project billing requirements, respond to budget amendments, and proactively drive the reduction of aged Work in Progress (WIP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) to meet Day Sales Outstanding (DSO) targets.
- Maintain and update divisional resourcing tools, track capacity planning, analyse planned vs actual utilisation, and highlight pipeline or capacity risks to management.
- Act as the primary or secondary client contact, identifying and mitigating risks typical of low-complexity projects under master service agreements.
- Manage project contracts and documentation for sub-consultants and vendors, ensure compliance with contract terms, and coordinate regular progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Drive the consistent adoption and correct use of project management tools, enterprise systems, and BI dashboards across the division.
- Minimum of 7 years' total work experience, which must include at least 5 years dedicated to project management.
- Proven experience operating within an engineering, science, or environmental consulting environment is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with project financials, reporting, scheduling, and risk management.
- Direct experience with operational support functions, specifically WIP/Debt management, resource planning, utilisation tracking, and revenue forecasting.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to interpret and manipulate financial data across multiple systems.
- Must possess a valid driver's licence and own transport.
- Undergraduate degree in Project Management, Engineering, Science, Environmental, or Business is required.
