Description
The Mechanical Engineer ensures that all Front Runner Dometic products meet applicable regulatory, safety, and legal requirements across global markets. The Mechanical Engineer combines regulatory expertise with hands‑on engineering validation, including the planning and execution of product testing, analysis, and certification. The Mechanical Engineer collaborates with engineering, R&D, legal, sourcing, and production teams throughout the product lifecycle, and serves as the local compliance expert for South Africa while coordinating with international compliance specialists in Europe, the USA, and Australia.

Your main responsibilities: Compliance&Regulatory

Ensure adherence to global laws, regulations, and internal policies for product design, safety, and materials.

Monitor and analyse South African and international legislation, standards, and regulatory changes.

Collaborate with regional compliance experts and suppliers to align with requirements.

Develop internal design/testing standards and maintain compliance records.

Coordinate product certifications and engage with industry bodies to stay ahead of regulatory trends.

Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.

Testing&Validation

Plan, execute, and document product testing in line with industry and regulatory standards.

Create and maintain test plans, procedures, and reports.

Perform engineering analyses (including FEA) to validate performance, durability, and safety.

Oversee lab and field testing across mechanical, environmental, and functional areas.

Analyse test results, identify failures, and recommend corrective actions.

Support engineering teams in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.

Desired Experience&Qualification

Technical degree, preferably B.Eng, B.Tech in Engineering or a BSc degree.

Minimum 3 years in product compliance, regulatory affairs, product testing or product engineering.

Experience with South African legislation (NRCS, SABS, etc.) and international standards (ISO, CE, REACH, RoHS, etc.).

In‑depth understanding and ability to interpret laws, regulations and standards.

Experience working with international regulatory bodies.

Previous experience in automotive, outdoor or consumer goods industries will be beneficial.

Ability to interpret and understand technical drawings.

Proficiency in engineering calculations and analysis methods, including finite element analysis (FEA).

SolidWorks Simulation experience preferred.

Willing to take a hands‑on approach to product testing and validation.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to identify compliance and technical issues and develop solutions.

Detail‑oriented with strong organizational and project management capabilities.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
