Pharmacist– Fixed Term – Kalahari – Upington Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited, Upington, Northern Cape. Contract. Closing Date: 06 June 2026.
Job Description Dis-Chem Pharmacies requires a reputable Pharmacist for our Kalahari store. The pharmacist will provide pharmaceutical care by taking responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs and ensuring these needs are met.
Minimum Requirements Essential:
Grade 12 / Matric
BPharm / equivalent qualification
Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Minimum 2-3 years experience in Pharmaceutical
2-3 years retail pharmacy experience (Student/Intern)
Computer literate– MS Office
Advantageous:
Relevant retail/FMCG experience
Third additional language
SAP experience
E-scripting experience
Registered tutor
Unisolv experience
Duties and Responsibilities
Evaluation of a patient’s medicine-related needs by determining the indication, safety and effectiveness of the therapy.
Dispensing of any medicine or scheduled substance on the prescription of a person authorised to prescribe medicine.
Signing off and checking of all prescriptions prepared by an assistant or an intern and accepting accountability for the correctness thereof as per GPP 2.7.1.2.1.f.
Furnishing of information and advice to any person with regard to the use of medicine.
Determining patient compliance with the therapy, and follow‑up to ensure that the patient’s medicine-related needs are being met.
Provision of pharmacist‑initiated therapy.
Compounding, manipulation, preparation or packaging of any medicine or scheduled substance, or the supervision thereof.
Manufacturing of any medicine or scheduled substance, or supervision thereof.
Purchasing, acquiring, importing, keeping, possessing, using, releasing, storage, packaging, re‑packaging, supplying or selling of any medicine or scheduled substance, or supervision thereof.
Application for the registration of a medicine in accordance with the Medicines Act and Pharmacy Act.
Acting in accordance with the acts specially pertaining to the profession of a pharmacist as prescribed above; formulating any medicine for registration; distributing any medicine or scheduled substance; re‑packaging medicines; initiating and conducting pharmaceutical research and development; and promoting public health.
Accurately interpreting scripts and acting in a professional and responsible manner and within legal requirements in accordance with the South African Pharmaceutical Council.
Capturing script details accurately and verifying patient details on the system.
Ensuring accurate picking/packing/labeling and checking of medication and being aware of common dosages as well as important drug interactions.
Providing accurate instructions to patients regarding correct use of medicine supplied.
Keeping abreast of changes in medical aid procedures and requirements for claims and dispensing.
Advising and assisting patients at the dispensary, self‑medication counter and front‑shop.
Following up with patients regarding script tracking report as requested by the dispensary manager and follow‑up appointments.
Explaining all medical aid costs to patients.
Following through on promises made to customers.
Evaluating disease conditions and referring to in‑store health facilities when necessary.
Processing all paperwork necessary for the accurate submission of claims to medical aids.
Correcting errors on scripts rejected by medical aid.
Ensuring authorization of chronic, HIV, AIDS and oncology medication.
Maintaining customer profiles on the system.
Merging profiles locally and notifying Vexall to merge profiles centrally.
Noting any messages on the customer profile and taking suitable action.
Assisting the Dispensary Manager to ensure that all administration functions are carried out correctly and timely.
Reporting on low‑out of‑stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager.
Facilitating bi‑annual stock takes.
Exercising stock, cash and asset control.
Assisting the Dispensary Manager to ensure that all stock control processes are adhered to and that all registers are kept up to date in accordance with legislation.
Housekeeping in accordance with Dis-Chem standards.
Adhering to Dis-Chem Policies and Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
Adhering to Health and Safety rules and regulations.
Adhering to Dis-Chem Uniform and personal appearance policy.
Competencies
Strong command of the English language and a second language– read, write and speak.
Good communication skills, listening.
Basic dosing and important drug interaction knowledge.
