Role Description The Principal Process Engineer would lead metallurgical and process system design, development, and implementation across mining, process plant design, backfill, tailings, and related industries, from concept through to commissioning. This role includes serving as the main technical contact for metallurgical process engineering in the design office and working closely with the Cape Town metallurgical test facility to plan and interpret process test work.
This role requires
twenty
years of relevant work experience and a proven ability to deliver technical sound and practical process solutions in addition to leading, mentoring and growing a process engineering design team.
Tasks:
Deliver best-practice process designs that meet technical project requirements
Ensure all Process Engineering work is delivered to a high technical standard
Establish, maintain and apply design standards within your areas of expertise
Provide the main technical interface between the design office and the test facility, ensuring laboratory results are correctly applied in process designs
Develop process flow sheets, process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams
Specify and select process equipment and develop data sheets for key process equipment
Assist in technical adjudication and interfacing with process equipment procurement
Prepare and process design reports, scopes of work and technical specifications
Conducts design reviews and ensure quality and consistency of deliverables
Manage process components, inputs and designs across project phases (scoping to detailed design and implementation)
Support project planning, cost estimation, proposal preparation and client liaison
Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives on time and within budget
Contribute to internal technical development by mentoring engineers and promoting design standardisation and continuous improvement
Manage a wide range of project elements, including preparing proposals, planning, budgeting, attending site meetings and liaising with clients
Work across teams to meet project design requirements and deliverables.
Responsibilities:
Capacity to lead complex engineering tasks independently, take responsibility and sign-off on designs or processes
The successful applicant will grow, develop and lead a process engineering team over time
Maintain open communication within the greater test facility team to support effective collaboration
Encourage a culture of continuous improvement and learning
Provide technical supervision
Contribute as part of a project team and perform tasks in projects
Apply technical knowledge and skills to perform engineering tasks and problem solving in projects
Continuously develop knowledge, understanding and skills associated with relevant engineering projects systems and the mining and resources industries
Develop a client base and foster stakeholder relationships to identify new business opportunities
Continuous learning and professional development will be required to remain up to date with current practices and technology.
A bachelor’s degree or higher in process engineering
Registered as a Professional Engineer / Technologist with ECSA
20 years’ work experience (in mineral processing or related industries)
No criminal record (due to client, travel and site requirements)
A valid passport and driver’s licence
Able and willing to travel locally and internationally, when required.
